Early Week Weather
High pressure will manage to retain control of our weather for a couple more days.
Despite active weather being expected today across the Upper Great Lakes, New England, and the Mid-Atlantic, a small bubble of dry weather will remain in place over the Finger Lakes.
A stray spit of rain cannot be totally ruled out today but would be rare and hard to come by, if any develops at all.
Skies will be sunny throughout the day with a mix of some thin clouds and fair weather clouds.
Like the last few days, winds will be light and variable with speeds at or under 5 mph.
Afternoon highs will be between 80-85 degrees with dewpoints in the low and mid 60s.
Skies will be mostly clear tonight with lows in the low 60s to the north and the upper 50s to the south. A few mid 50s will be possible in Cortland County.
Tuesday will be similar to today, but even warmer. Most areas should see highs in the mid 80s, and typically warmer urban and valley locations will reach the upper 80s. Dewpoints will be in the mid 60s.
There will again be a very small chance for an isolated spit of rain during the day, especially west of Seneca Lake. Overall, dry weather will rule.
Tuesday Night will have a slightly higher chance for a few showers or storms, particularly after midnight. Not all areas will see rain, though.
It will be a warm and muggy night with lows mainly in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.
Slightly Unsettled Weather
Wednesday will continue to have a chance for scattered showers and storms as a front moves through the region. The timing of the front is a bit uncertain, but looks like it will be earlier rather than later.
Some areas will probably escape Wednesday without any rain as well. On the flip side, if the front is slow enough, a couple of stronger storms will be possible, especially across the Southern Tier.
Temperatures Wednesday will be in the 80s, with the warmest temperatures to the south. Ultimately, how hot it gets will depend on the timing of the front.
A few lingering showers will be possible on Thursday with highs retreating to the mid 70s. Again, not all areas will see rain. Even those that do should only see light amounts over brief periods.
Friday looks mainly dry until late in the day or possibly the nighttime hours. Another front will eventually bring showers and storms to the region in what will be the best chance for rain this week.
The fine details of this rain will need to be worked out throughout the week.
Rain showers will linger early Saturday, but there is a chance for a dry afternoon. Sunday and Monday look dry for the Labor Day holiday, at this time.
Temperatures will likely stick to the 70s through the weekend and the first week of September at a minimum. It will probably be slightly more likely to see a random cool day with highs in the 60s than a warmer day with highs in the 80s.
