Incoming Cold Front
A slow-moving cold front over the Upper Great Lakes will arrive in our area Saturday morning.
Out ahead of the front, breezy south winds will keep temperatures mild this afternoon.
Wind speeds will be near 10 mph at times with gusts as high as 25 mph. Plentiful sunshine this morning will add to the warming.
Afternoon highs should be in the upper 70s and low 80s for most areas, though a few warmer and cooler pockets are both possible.
Clouds will gradually build in throughout the morning and early afternoon. The latter parts of the afternoon may see clouds cover the sky with some sunlight filtering through.
A few showers may even arrive for areas west of Canandaigua Lake late in the afternoon. This chance will spread east slightly this evening, but the rain will not make much eastward progress until the predawn hours.
Breezy conditions will persist through the night, with temperatures not dipping into the upper 50s until just before dawn.
Widespread rain will fall Saturday, slowly making its way from west to east during the morning hours and lingering into the early afternoon. Some additional scattered showers are possible behind the main band of rain during the late afternoon, though some breaks of sun will also be possible.
The steadier rain will last 3-6 hours in any given location with most areas seeing over a half-inch, but under an inch of total precipitation.
Temperatures will hold in the upper 50s through the morning and will rise to the low and perhaps mid 60s during the afternoon. Winds will turn to the northwest with speeds at or above 10 mph and gusts of 25-30 mph.
Partly cloudy skies are expected Saturday night, with a few showers possible, mainly near Lake Ontario. Northwest winds will gradually turn to the west with speeds under 10 mph.
It will be chilly, with widespread mid and upper 40s overnight. Pockets of low 40s are possible in the Southern Tier and Central New York.
More Dry Weather
Sunday will be much less rainy than Saturday with just a few scattered showers dotting the region. The highest chances for showers will be across the northern half of the region, where Lake Ontario will add in some lake enhancement. Individual showers will be small and brief.
Outside of the showers, the sun will poke in and out of fair weather clouds. Northwest winds will be on the breezy side again, with speeds at or slightly above 10 mph and gusts of 25-30 mph.
Temperatures will get a touch warmer than Saturday, but it will still be on the cool side. Most areas should see highs make it into the mid 60s, though higher elevations will see low 60s and possibly even a localized pocket of upper 50s.
Winds will turn to the southwest Sunday night, keeping temperatures from getting as chilly as Saturday night. The northern half of the region will stick to the low 50s, while the southern half sees upper 40s and a few pockets of mid 40s.
Monday will have a mix of sun and clouds and just a tiny chance for a brief, isolated shower. Temperatures will start to climb, with highs in the low 70s.
Tuesday will be sunny and warmer yet, with highs reaching the mid 70s.
Only a few thin clouds are expected on Wednesday as temperatures continue to rise. Look for highs to reach the upper 70s.
By Thursday, most areas will be around 80 degrees again with another day of sunshine and dry weather.
Next weekend is most likely looking dry as well, though there is some inherent uncertainty this far in advance. Even the following week has only uncertain, sporadic chances for rain showing on the models.
Temperatures will remain mild as well, with highs leveling off near or just above 80 degrees through next weekend and the following week.
