This Week’s Only Rain
A weather disturbance will drop southeast out of Canada today, bringing the only chance for rain this week to the area this afternoon.
The morning hours will stay dry, though clouds may begin to increase after a sunny start.
A couple stray showers may be possible by the early afternoon, but the main action will be in the mid and late afternoon. A broken line of showers and possibly a few thunderstorms will move from northwest to southeast across the region.
For most areas, these will just be some late day rain showers. For the few areas that see thunderstorms, though, some gusty winds and brief downpours will also be possible.
A few showers will linger after sunset, but the area should be dry by midnight.
Winds will be from the southwest this morning before turning more westerly this afternoon. Wind speeds will be 5-10 mph.
Temperatures will average out to be around 70 degrees this afternoon, with low 70s in some of the typically warmer urban and valley locations, while higher elevations stick to the upper or even mid 60s.
Clouds will hang around much of the night, helping hold temperatures to the mid 50s with some cooler pockets.
Dry and Mild
High pressure will build in Tuesday, kicking off another long stretch of dry weather. After a few early clouds, skies will be sunny with a few fair-weather clouds.
Afternoon highs will be similar to today, averaging out around 70 degrees. Winds will be light from the northwest.
Clear skies Tuesday night will allow temperatures to slip back a bit further than tonight. Lows will be near or just above 50 roughly in the northern half of the region, with mainly mid 40s to the south. Cortland county may drop into the low 40s.
Wednesday should have just a few thin clouds with highs jumping into the 75-80 degree range. Most areas will be on the lower half of that range.
Sunshine will persist into Thursday and Friday with highs warming into the low 80s. Morning lows will be well into the 50s.
No rain is expected this weekend, either. Afternoon highs will stay warm around or slightly above 80 degrees, while morning lows will be in the upper 50s.
Dewpoints throughout the week should remain comfortable in the 40s and 50s, though by the weekend, a few low 60s may start to show up.
Dry weather may very well persist for much of next week, too, with little showing on the models. As long as high pressure is in control and rain isn’t falling, temperatures should remain roughly around 80 degrees.
