Late Week Weather Forecast
Low pressure meandering over the Mid-Atlantic region will continue to be blocked by high pressure centered over New England.
Some areas of thicker clouds have moved into the Finger Lakes ahead of the low this morning.
Varying amounts and thickness of clouds will persist throughout the day today. Sometimes the sun will break through, other times it will be filtered behind thinner clouds, and other times it will look rather gray and dull out.
Rain will generally remain outside of the region, though a stray shower in the southern half of the region cannot be totally ruled out. Even across the south, most if not all areas will end up dry.
With the thicker clouds, temperatures will be a bit cooler again today compared to yesterday. Mid 70s will stretch across the southern half of the region, with upper 70s and a few low 80s to the north.
Neither the high nor the low are particularly strong, so winds will be light, despite these two opposite systems bumping up against one another. What wind there is will mainly be from the southeast and east today with speeds at or under 5 mph.
It will be more of the same tomorrow, though, as a whole, skies will probably be a bit brighter than today. The chance for even a stray shower will also go to just about zero.
Winds will be more northerly tomorrow and wind speeds may even creep above 5 mph during the afternoon.
The extra sunshine should counteract the more northerly flow and temperatures should be a touch warmer than today across the south and nearly the same across the north.
Friday looks sunnier yet, though there will still be plenty of clouds to mix in with the sun. Northeast winds may approach 10 mph at times, but afternoon highs will still reach the upper 70s and low 80s.
A few showers may again try to swing into the region late in the day or overnight, coming from the east. Most areas will stay dry again, though.
Medium Range Weather Forecast
Perhaps the best chance for some upcoming rain will come on Saturday, though even then, only some uncertain scattered showers are expected.
It looks as though the morning may have a greater chance for showers than the afternoon. Conversely, sunshine will be more likely late in the day.
Temperatures will range through the 70s on Saturday. All but some eastern hilltops should at least reach 75 degrees, though.
Sunday, however, will be a touch cooler. The broad valleys of the Southern Tier, the I-90 corridor, and the Genesee Valley have the best shot at getting above 75 degrees. The rest of the region will see low and mid 70s. A few hilltops in Cortland County may struggle to get beyond 70 degrees.
Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds and no rain is expected. Winds will be from the southeast, continuing at light speeds.
Monday will also be dry, but perhaps with a bit more in the way of cloud cover, especially later in the day. Highs will generally be in the low 70s.
Clouds will continue to increase on Tuesday and there is at least a possibility for some late rain. Temperatures will stick to the low 70s.
Rain becomes more likely for the second half of next week, though there remains a high degree of uncertainty on both timing and amounts.
Temperatures will remain close to the seasonal averages in the upper 60s and low 70s.
