Weekend Weather Forecast
High pressure will bring some sunshine and briefly warmer temperatures for Friday into Saturday.
A few clouds will be possible from time to time and from place to place during the day Friday. As a whole, though, it should be a rather sunny day.
Southwest winds will team up with the sunshine to make it the warmest day of the week as well. Most places should be at or above 65 degrees, and a few urban areas could flirt with 70 degrees.
Thin clouds will increase late in the day and into the evening hours. Clouds will thicken further overnight with a few showers in the hours leading up to and just following sunrise.
These showers will be associated with a weak cold front. While the nighttime clouds, showers, and continuing southerly winds will keep overnight temperatures in the 50s, the daytime hours Saturday will not have much additional rise. Many areas will only just make it to 60 degrees, and many others will end up just short.
However, morning clouds will clear out and Saturday afternoon should be quite sunny.
Clouds will increase Saturday night and rain should move into the area before sunrise. This will be a widespread rainfall.
Temperatures will still manage to fall well into the 40s before the rain and a few pockets of upper 30s are possible in Cortland County. Could a few snowflakes mix in with the predawn rain for those colder areas? Probably not, but it is not too far off.
Widespread rain will transition to on and off showers Sunday morning. These will persist throughout the day. Afternoon highs will only make it into the mid 50s.
Cold Next Week
The low pressure system responsible for Sunday’s weather will move northeast over eastern Canada and stall out. This will lead to a chilly, damp week next week.
Numerous showers are expected on Monday and Tuesday. Winds will also be blustery from the northwest, gusting to or over 30 mph at times.
Cold air will entrench itself over the region. Highs on Monday will be in the mid and upper 40s, while Tuesday will only be in the mid and even low 40s.
Even with the clouds and showers, temperatures will drop into the 30s Monday and Tuesday night. The chance for some higher elevation snowflakes is real.
Wednesday will not be much different, though the showers should become more scattered. It will still be windy and cold with highs similar to Tuesday. Wednesday night will see more 30s with additional chances for rain and mixed snowflakes in select locations.
The weather will start to dig itself out of this pattern on Thursday. There will still be a few showers about, but also some sunshine. Winds should let up and highs will push into the 50s.
From there, it will be a quick warmer up with highs into the 60s by the weekend. The following week looks like it will keep this warmer pattern, too.
