Early Week Weather

High pressure remains in firm control of the weather over the eastern United States.

This will bring us three more days of sunny, warm weather before a quick moving cold front sets temperatures back.

Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday will all have plenty of sunshine with a few clouds mixing in here or there. Most of the clouds will be thin and insignificant.

The clouds will especially be possible later Wednesday as the cold front approaches.

Rain associated with the front may arrive just before sunset on Wednesday, but the timing is still a bit uncertain since we are a couple days out. Most of the rain that does fall should come during the evening hours.

Not a lot of rain is expected and there is even a chance a few places may get mostly missed by the showers. The chance for rain amounts over a quarter of an inch is low.

Winds over the coming days will stay southerly with high pressure centered to our south and drifting eastward.

Today, the wind will also have a westerly component with speeds only around 5 mph. Tomorrow’s winds will be similarly light, but from a more due southerly direction.

Wind speeds will start to pick up Tuesday night and into Wednesday, peaking during the afternoon with speeds slightly over 10 mph. A few places may see a gust as high as 30 mph.

Temperatures will remain very warm for this time of the year with high temperatures mainly in the mid 70s Monday, Tuesday, and Wednesday. While warm, record highs for this time of the year are generally still in the low 80s, so it historically has been even warmer.

Overnight lows have taken a big leap upwards as well, leaving behind the frosty starts of late last week and the weekend. Monday night’s temperatures will stick to the upper 40s and 50s, while Tuesday night should see most areas only dropping to the mid 50s.

Pair of Cold Fronts

The first of two cold fronts will move through the area Wednesday evening with showers as discussed above.

Winds will turn to the northwest behind the front, sending temperatures to the low 40s to start off Thursday morning.

Thursday should also start off with some clouds, but these should gradually dissipate by the afternoon. Wind speeds will be similar to Wednesday through the early afternoon before they, too, gradually dissipate.

High temperatures on Thursday will only end up around 50 degrees.

Thursday night will be frosty and cool with lows down in the low and mid 30s underneath clear skies. Those clear skies will extend into Friday morning before clouds increase during the afternoon.

Winds will turn back to the south, though, nudging temperatures up into the upper 50s.

Increasing clouds and a southerly wind can only mean one thing: an approaching weather system. Sure enough, the second of the cold fronts will move through Friday night into Saturday with some additional light, scattered rain showers.

Saturday should not be a washout, even though showers will be possible. Winds will be back to the northwest and could be a bit blustery. Temperatures will peak in the 50s during the morning, then fall back into the 40s.

Sunday may be a bit cloudy and breezy early on before sunshine and lighter winds take over. It will be a chilly day, with highs possibly sticking to the 40s.

High pressure will move through and set up off the Mid-Atlantic coast next week, opening us up to another surge of warm air. Hitting 70 degrees again before Halloween is a real possibility.
