High Pressure

Another stretch of dry weather is kicking off today as a large area of high pressure moves across the region.

It is, for many, the coldest morning so far this season beneath the clear skies and calm winds associated with the high pressure. Most areas are starting in the low and mid 20s.

Winds will remain light today, coming in from the east and northeast at around 5 mph. Skies will stay sunny with high temperatures just a little warmer than yesterday, mostly in the mid 40s.

Clouds will increase this evening as a decaying low pressure system ejects from the middle of the nation and heads toward the Ohio Valley.

The increasing cloudiness will keep temperatures tonight in the upper 20s and low 30s.

Thursday will be rather cloudy, though some limited, filtered sunshine may try to work its way through the overcast. Southeast winds will increase tonight and persist into Thursday with speeds around 10 mph.

High temperatures on Thursday will again be in the mid 40s.

A little precipitation may just make it into the southwestern quadrant of the region Thursday evening, but will dissipate as it moves in.

After midnight, clouds should begin to break up, a trend that will continue into Friday morning. By Friday afternoon, skies may be mostly sunny.

Friday will start with temperatures in the mid 30s and afternoon highs will make it to the upper 40s.

Weekend Weather, Next Week’s Forecast

High pressure will keep control of the weather through the weekend.

Saturday will be sunny and a bit milder, with most areas breaking into the low 50s. Morning lows will again mainly be in the mid 30s.

Northwest winds both Friday and Saturday will be a touch blustery, with speeds over 10 mph and gusts around 25 mph.

The atmosphere will be dry as well with relative humidity values in the 30 and 40 percent decades. This will lead to an increase in brushfire risk. A statewide burn ban is in effect through the end of the month.

Sunday will remain rain-free, but clouds will build in over the course of the day as a weak low pressure system over Canada approaches.

Relative humidity values will still be low, but winds will be nearly calm on Sunday. Highs will be in the mid 50s.

Showers are possible on Monday as the low passes by. Substantial precipitation is unlikely.

Temperatures will linger in the mid 50s both Monday and Tuesday, with nighttime temperatures around 40 degrees.

A large, pattern shifting weather system is possible across the eastern half of the nation late next week.

Time will tell how this system evolves and what it may mean for our weather.

Currently, the models show an uptick in precipitation, including some chances for snow, and generally cooler, but not extremely cold temperatures next weekend and the week of Thanksgiving.

2025 Calendar Update

Unfortunately, I am not able to offer a calendar for 2025. There were several factors that went into this decision, many of them beyond my control. Technological issues and high costs were among the chief reasons.

I know this is disappointing for you, as it is for me. I had high hopes for this year and had already put a lot of work into another great calendar. But, that will give me a head start on hopefully bringing the calendar back for 2026.

The calendar sales have paid for many of the expenses directly related to running FLX Weather over the last two years. This includes basics like web hosting and subscriptions to various aspects of the website, but also more specialized subscriptions like access to model data.

Without the calendar sales, 2025 remains unfunded. This will make it even more difficult for me to do my work producing the weather forecasts you rely on, especially during active and hazardous weather.

If you are able to make a one-time donation, or even better a monthly contribution, please consider doing so to secure the funding necessary for another year. Thank you for your consideration, generosity, and support.
