Late Week Weather
A weak area of low pressure over the Upper Great Lakes has pulled warmer air into the region, expelling the core of the recent cold air mass.
Temperatures will not be getting warm anytime soon, but they will be warmer for the foreseeable future.
Skies will remain mostly cloudy today, though a few breaks of sun across the southern half of the region will be possible from time to time. To the north, mainly along and north of I-90, some occasional light snow showers will fly.
A steady southerly breeze will blow throughout the day, helping nudge temperatures into the low and mid 20s this afternoon.
Winds will turn to the southwest this evening and the northwest overnight. A few snow showers will be possible, especially to the north and especially after midnight, when some lake effect develops.
Snow showers and a few lake effect squalls will persist off and on throughout Friday. Most of the time, most places will not be seeing any snow. Accumulations should be minimal, with the majority of the region seeing under an inch.
Temperatures on Friday will start ranging through the 10s with highs a couple degrees lower than today.
Winds will turn back to a southwesterly direction Friday night, removing the lake effect and leading to some clearing skies. Temperatures will respond by slipping back into the single digits for many areas.
Weather This Weekend, Next Week
The next weather system will approach on Saturday and pass through on Sunday.
Southerly winds will take hold again on Saturday with mostly cloudy skies. Temperatures will rebound from the cool start to a high in the mid 20s.
The southerly flow will persist through Saturday night, only allowing temperatures to drop a couple of degrees. That will get Sunday off to a running start and most areas should at least be near, if not slightly above 30 degrees.
Winds will turn westerly on Sunday and increase, becoming blustery during the late morning and early afternoon. A few gusts may go as high as 40 mph.
Snow showers will also be common on Sunday, but accumulations will once again be minimal, with most areas seeing less than an inch.
Monday looks mostly quiet, but like today, there may be a few northern snow showers. Temperatures will start the day in the 10s but will rise into the low 30s for the afternoon.
Snow showers will be possible Tuesday and Wednesday, possibly with some light accumulation as the next weather system passes through. Highs will be near 30 on Tuesday but in the mid 20s Wednesday.
On and off periods of mainly light precipitation will be possible late next week and into the weekend as well. Temperatures should remain in the 25-35 degree range.
