Weekend Weather Forecast
Temperatures have taken an initial dip behind yesterday’s wet weather system, but additional cold air will make its way into the area this weekend.
Skies are mixed across the region this morning with most areas starting out in the mid 20s. It will remain partly to mostly cloudy through the morning before new clouds build in this afternoon.
These clouds will be associated with a small push of milder air ahead of the next incoming weather system.
There is a chance for a few snow showers with these clouds this afternoon. Yesterday, I mentioned the possibility of a burst of snow. That now looks like it will stay north of the region, though a few isolated, briefly heavier snow showers will still be possible north of I-90.
Temperatures this afternoon will rise into the mid 30s with further warming to the low 40s overnight. A few rain and snow showers will be possible tonight.
South winds will become blustery with gusts over 30 mph, especially over higher elevations.
Another cold front will move through near dawn Saturday, turning winds to the west and eventually northwest. Gusts to 40 mph will be possible.
Scattered snow showers are likely on Saturday as well. Snow may become steadier in the late afternoon and evening hours over the northern and eastern Finger Lakes as lake effect increases.
Most areas will see under an inch of snow on Saturday, with 1-4 inches Saturday night. The higher end of that range will mainly be found over Wayne, Cayuga, Onondaga, and perhaps isolated, mainly northern portions of Tompkins and Cortland counties.
Temperatures will fall through the day on Saturday. Most areas will be in the 20s throughout the afternoon.
Some areas of lake effect will linger Sunday, especially during the morning and midday. Locally another couple inches is possible, but most areas will see minimal accumulation.
Winds will be lighter on Sunday but still brisk with gusts of 25-30 mph. Temperatures will start in the upper single digits and low 10s and only top out around 20 degrees.

Next Week’s Weather
Monday will start off cold with lows well into the 10s with pockets of single digits. However, sunshine will increase throughout the day and light winds will gradually turn southwesterly. This should nudge afternoon highs into the low 30s.
After an initial dip in temperature Monday evening, increasing south winds will bring temperatures back to around 30 degrees by Tuesday morning.
As the warm air moves in, so too will some precipitation. Some pockets of snow will be possible early, but everything should quickly become rain Tuesday morning. This rain looks on and off and scattered, not widespread and steady.
Afternoon highs will make it into the mid 40s. South winds will be steady, but not too strong.
Tuesday night will only drop to around 40 degrees, with rain increasing and becoming steadier after midnight.
Wednesday will be wet, windy, and warm with highs well into the 50s.
Cooler air will come back for the end of next week behind the weather system responsible for the mid-week warm up.
Thursday looks quite windy with temperatures in the 30s. Some snow showers will also be possible.
Winds will slowly lessen next Friday with temperatures remaining in the 30s. Some 40s may be possible next weekend with strong signals for more mild weather the following week.
