Cooler Mid Week Weather
A cold front moved through the area late yesterday, setting up a couple days of cooler weather.
Winds will be from the southwest today as the parent low responsible for the cold front slowly moves across eastern Canada. Wind speeds will increase this morning to near 15 mph this afternoon. Gusts will locally be 30-35 mph.
Skies will remain mostly cloudy, though there may be some occasional thin spots that the sun tries to shine through.
A few stray flurries or rain showers cannot be ruled out, but most areas will stay dry.
Temperatures will mainly be in the low and mid 40s this afternoon with a few pockets of both warmer and cooler temperatures.
The cloud cover will break up somewhat tonight with partly cloudy skies for the evening and early overnight. There should be a general uptick in clouds as dawn approaches, with a few snow showers possible.
Overnight lows will be in the mid and upper 20s, with the southern half of the region cooler than the northern half. Nighttime winds will be light with speeds near or under 5 mph.
Some atmospheric energy will pass through tomorrow, inducing scattered snow showers throughout the day. Most of these will be brief and light, but a few heavier bursts with some graupel (soft, Styrofoam like snow pellets) will also be possible, especially in the afternoon.
Accumulations should be limited to a brief coating of snow on grassy and colder surfaces that very well may completely melt before the next snow shower moves in.
Most areas will see highs in the mid and upper 30s on Wednesday with some of the typically warmer pockets, such as Syracuse, Dansville, and the river valleys between Elmira and Binghamton, reaching near or just above 40 degrees.
Winds will turn to the northwest with speeds increasing over 10 mph. Once again, a few gusts may sneak over 30 mph at times.
A few flurries may linger Wednesday evening with clearing skies overnight. Lows will generally be in the upper 20s.

Uncertain Weekend Forecast
Thursday will be a quiet day with sunshine in the morning and a few clouds building in for the afternoon. Winds will generally be light with afternoon highs in the 45-50 degree range.
A few rain and snow showers will be possible Thursday night, but clearing skies will return by Friday morning. Overnight lows will be in the low 30s.
Clouds will once again increase on Friday, with less sunshine overall than on Thursday. Temperatures will nudge a bit higher, reaching the upper 40s and low 50s.
Another round of precipitation is likely Friday night as a frontal boundary develops nearby or overhead. Showers will likely continue into Saturday, though the bulk of the precipitation is favored to be north of the region.
This frontal boundary will be a sharp cut off between chilly air to the north and mild air to the south. With the front nearby or overhead, the temperature forecast for the weekend is very uncertain.
The further south, the better the chance for warm weather on Saturday. Some parts of the Southern Tier ma well approach 60 degrees, while areas near Lake Ontario may be in the low 40s at the same time.
On Sunday, there is a better chance that the warm air will make progress throughout the region with highs near 60 degrees more likely.
The front will remain nearby on Monday, again with warm weather more favored over cold. Showers and thunderstorms will be possible, but again, this remains highly uncertain at this point.
Cooler weather should move back in for the middle and end of next week with several models even trying to bring some snow into the area.
This type of pattern is common in the springtime and can certainly make for some interesting weather. Stay tuned, but be wary of weather hype.
