Late Week Weather

The next few days will be unsettled across the Finger Lakes, but all in all, most of the weather should be fairly benign.

A weak area of low pressure will move toward the region today. Precipitation is already trying to spread into the Finger Lakes early this morning, but is encountering dry air and mostly not reaching the ground.

Over time, the dry air will erode away, and precipitation will begin to fall during the mid and late morning hours.

Most of this should fall as rain, but a little localized snow could mix in at first. Rain will continue steadily through the midday and most of the afternoon.

Winds will be light from the southeast as this system approaches. Temperatures will only be slightly warmer than yesterday with highs mainly in the low 40s.

Steady rain will taper to scattered showers by the evening. Occasional showers will then persist through the night and through much of Friday. Batches of showers may come and go in waves, so it should not be a steady rain like this afternoon.

Friday’s temperatures will start in the mid 30s and rise to the low and mid 40s. Again, a few localized pockets of snow could mix in overnight tonight into early Friday.

This pattern will give birth to a new low pressure along the East Coast Friday night into Saturday. The majority of the precipitation from this low will stay closer to the coast, but some scattered showers will be possible Friday night and early Saturday.

With nighttime temperatures in the mid 30s, pockets of higher elevation snow across the southeastern Finger Lakes will be possible as well with little to no accumulation.

Low pressure will pull away Saturday afternoon, leading to the chance for some breaks of afternoon sun. Highs will respond by reaching the mid and upper 40s. Winds will turn to the northeast and north, but will remain on the light side.

Brief Warm Up

High pressure will slide through the area on Sunday, bringing a quiet weather day. Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds, but no precipitation is expected.

Winds will be from the due north, increasing over 10 mph for the middle of the day with a few gusts over 25 mph possible. Lighter winds will take over late in the day.

Despite the northerly flow, temperatures will continue to rise, with most areas getting into the low and mid 50s.

Partly cloudy skies overnight will send temperatures back to the mid 30s for the start of Monday. Winds will swing around to the south early Monday, pushing highs into the low and mid 60s.

There may be some early sun on Monday, but clouds will be increasing and thickening through the day. Rain is likely Monday night as a front moves into the area.

Scattered showers will linger into Tuesday. Morning temperatures will be in the upper 40s, but daytime temperatures will only rise a handful of degrees from there.

Cool weather will settle in for Wednesday with some morning snow showers. Highs will be around 40 degrees with some blustery, cold winds.

Temperatures should moderate back toward the 50s by next weekend. There is a chance it could be warmer than that, but the spread of possibilities showing the models is too large to speculate too far.

Hello Drew, wouldn’t it be cheaper for you to just print the direct weather instead of all the maybe’s.Seems to be a lot of contradiction involved.
Then again “ wat do I know”?

      Hi Bill,

When I say things like “maybe a bit of snow mixing in”, it is a way for me to distill the weather over 17 counties with elevations varying from under 300′ to over 2000′ into a coherent statement. I suspect there will be snow mixing in for some areas, but I can’t list them all in order of likelihood or even nail down exactly which ones will and which ones won’t.

If weather forecasting were straightforward and not full of uncertainty, I wouldn’t need “maybe”. And when things are more clear, I say as such.

Not sure what you mean about “cheaper” and “contradictions”, though.
