Late Week Cold Fronts
A series of weak cold fronts are moving through the Finger Lakes region with little fanfare.
One front slid through during the overnight and another will pass by today.
There are a few showers along this front over Michigan and Canada this morning, so a stray shower cannot be ruled out today, especially across the northern half of the region.
Clouds will increase with the front, but as a whole, skies will be mixed today.
Smoke remains in the lower levels of the atmosphere, having some impact on the air quality. Like yesterday, Air Quality Index values range from about 80-120, straddling the yellow and orange classifications.
The smoke will gradually decrease today, especially in the afternoon in the wake of the front. By the late afternoon, we should be mostly rid of near-surface smoke, leading air quality to improve.
Temperatures today will vary through the 70s, with some higher elevations and the Lake Ontario shoreline in the low 70s and the typically milder valleys of the Southern Tier reaching the upper 70s. Most areas will end up in the mid 70s.
Winds will be from the northwest with speeds reaching 10 mph across the northeastern half of the region and staying lighter to the southwest.
Clouds will remain variable tonight. It should be a bit cooler, with most areas down into the low 50s.
Friday will have some limited sun between clouds. Most of the day will be dry, but a few late afternoon showers will be possible, especially across the western Southern Tier.
Light north and northeast winds will blow, helping hold temperatures mainly in the low 70s.
Air quality should remain good with no near-surface smoke. Some light smoke aloft will be possible.
The chances for rain will increase Friday night, but showers will remain scattered with the southern half of the region most favored. Overnight lows will be in the mid 50s.

Weather This Weekend, Next Week
The frontal boundaries that are passing through today will stall out to our south, lingering into the weekend before dissipating.
Scattered showers from Friday night may linger into Saturday morning before dissipating or moving south.
A few stray showers may still pop up Saturday afternoon as well. But, for the most part, it will not be an overly rainy day and many areas will likely stay dry completely.
Northerly flow should keep smoke minimal and temperatures down with highs again in the low 70s.
Scattered showers will be a bit more likely on Sunday, but again, it should not be a washout and some areas may remain dry.
The late morning and early afternoon are the most likely time for showers.
Temperatures will start to rebound a little, with morning lows in the upper 50s and afternoon highs in the mid 70s.
Monday will start off with low 60s. Afternoon highs will be in the mid to upper 70s. Scattered showers will continue to be possible.
Heat and humidity will continue to go up into the middle of next week with highs near 80 on Tuesday and into the mid 80s Wednesday. Overnight temperatures will remain in the 60s.
Scattered showers will transition to scattered thunderstorms in the more unstable airmass.
This pattern should persist into at least late next week with warm, humid air fueling pop up thunderstorms at a minimum.
