Early Week Weather Forecast
A slow-moving frontal boundary will push a little further southeast today but will still bring a chance for rain to parts of the area.
Yesterday, this front brought widespread active weather to our region. Today, the focal point will be south and east of the region, but the chance for a few showers and storms will remain.
The highest chances for rain will be late this afternoon, after 4 pm, across the southeastern Finger Lakes. Areas roughly from Bath to Ithaca to Cortland and southward will be most likely to see rain.
That being said, much of the precipitation may end up near or south of the NY-PA state line.
Unfortunately, these are some of the same areas that were hit very hard yesterday with heavy rain and flooding. Heavy rain and flooding should not be nearly the concern it was yesterday, but any additional downpours could cause some additional, localized minor problems.
Outside of this main period of rain, a few stray showers will be possible further north throughout the day. Anything that falls should be light and short-lived, and most areas will remain dry.
Skies will be mostly cloudy, though there may be some breaks of sun. A little haze from wildfire smoke will also be possible, and air quality could dip along the shore of Lake Ontario.
Winds will mainly be light, shifting to the northwest with time. Afternoon highs will mainly be in the low and mid 80s.
The front will dissipate overnight as high pressure takes over. Skies will gradually clear, though fog is likely in the usual valleys, especially across the Southern Tier. Overnight lows will be in the mid 60s.
Wildfire smoke from Canada will skirt the region on Tuesday, potentially reducing air quality for some. The further north and west, the higher the chances for degraded air quality. Winds will be nearly calm on Tuesday, preventing more significant smoke issues from moving in.
Tuesday will be a dry day with sun, clouds, and some haze from the smoke. Temperatures will rise with many places in the upper 80s and a few possibly flirting with 90 degrees.

Unsettled Weather
Tuesday night will be warm with lows around 70 degrees. That will get Wednesday off and running with highs easily matching Tuesday.
Scattered showers and storms will pop up in the hot and humid air during the latter half of the afternoon. Not all will see rain, but those that do may see heavy downpours.
Showers are also possible on Thursday, with a chance for a few thunderstorms as well. The details of how this weather system evolves Wednesday into Thursday are still a bit unclear.
Thursday will likely remain hot and humid, but Friday will be cooler with a high near 80 degrees. Humidity levels should drop as a cold front pushes south of the region. A few morning showers will be possible, but the afternoon looks dry at this point.
Saturday looks pleasant, with sun and clouds and a high in the low 80s. Morning lows will drop to near 60 degrees.
Another weather system is expected by Sunday with widespread showers and storms a possibility. Highs will be in the low 80s.
As a whole, the following week is looking a bit cooler with highs in the 70s and lower half of the 80s. Every-other-day rain will be possible as an active weather pattern remains in place.
