Mid-Week Weather
High pressure has slid into the region and should deliver a dry day to the Finger Lakes for Tuesday.
Unfortunately, along with the high pressure, some wildfire smoke from Canada has been seeping into the region.
Yesterday, the smoke was mainly contained north of I-90. Today, areas further south may see some of the smoke mixing in, reducing air quality at times. Those who have health concerns related to the smoke should monitor conditions, but widespread, general health problems should be more limited.
Outside of the smoke, skies will have some fair weather clouds once areas of morning fog burn off.
Winds will be nearly calm today. Afternoon highs will range from the mid 80s to near 90 degrees. It will be a touch muggy with dewpoints in the mid and upper 60s.
Smoke will begin to dissipate slowly overnight as a slight south breeze takes hold. Skies will remain partly cloudy or mostly clear, and fog should be less widespread than this morning. Overnight lows will be in the upper 60s.
Wednesday will start off sunny with fair weather clouds bubbling up through the late morning. Any lingering smoke should depart the region.
As temperatures push into the upper 80s, dewpoints will rise into the low 70s. A few stray showers and storms will start to pop up in the early to mid afternoon, starting in the west and spreading east.
Rain should remain quite isolated until the late afternoon and early evening, when showers and storms may become more widespread. Heavy downpours and lightning will be the primary risks from the storms.
It will be more of the same for Thursday. Scattered showers will be possible at any time with a chance for thunderstorms in the afternoon.
That being said, there should still be plenty of dry time on Thursday and most areas will not see a washout.
Thursday will remain warm and muggy with highs in the mid 80s.

Some Cooler Weather
A cold front will slide through late Thursday, ushering in a slightly cooler and less humid weather pattern.
A few lingering showers will be possible behind the front Friday morning, but skies should clear with time and the afternoon will have some sunshine.
After morning lows in the low 60s, afternoon highs will mainly be in the mid 70s. Dewpoints will fall to the 50s by the late afternoon.
A steady north wind will blow with speeds around 10 mph, pushing in the cooler, less humid air.
Clear skies and lighter winds Friday night will allow temperatures to fall into the low and mid 50s.
Saturday looks quiet with a mix of sun and clouds. Highs will be in the upper 70s and low 80s.
Rain will be possible from a passing system Saturday night into Sunday. Sunday doesn’t look like a washout, but the details on this system are still quite uncertain.
Highs on Sunday will stick around 80 degrees.
Monday looks more like Saturday, with no rain and some sunshine expected. Highs will be a touch warmer, reaching the low 80s for most.
The second half of next week looks more unsettled. The middle of the week should see highs in the 80s, but the end of the week and weekend may return to the 70s.
Late July Focus Shift
As an early head’s up, I will be taking a bit of a break with less frequent updates due to various family commitments between this Friday, the 18th through around Tuesday the 29th.
As always, the Zip Code Forecasts will be updated daily… but blog posts will be more sporadic and focused on potential hazards, rather than the day to day details.
By the beginning of August, I will be back in my daily routine.
