Summertime Weather
Hot and humid weather today will lead to some scattered thunderstorms late in the day and into Thursday.
Sunshine and light south winds will help temperatures climb in a hurry this morning and into the afternoon.
Many areas will top out close to or slightly above 90 degrees this afternoon. Higher elevations will stick to the upper 80s.
Dewpoints will be in the upper 60s and low 70s, resulting in heat index values ranging through the 90s.
This hot and humid air will also prime the atmosphere for some showers and thunderstorms.
At first, there will not be much to trigger storms, so precipitation through the early and mid afternoon should be very isolated. An uptick in activity late in the afternoon and into the evening is possible, but not completely certain.
Any storms will have the capacity to produce frequent lightning, torrential downpours, and some strong winds. The flash flooding threat is probably higher than the severe weather threat, though both should remain highly localized.
It will remain warm and muggy overnight, with many areas near or above 70 degrees for an overnight low. Additional scattered showers and storms are possible, with models hinting at the predawn hours as another potential period of heightened activity.
Thunderstorm development will remain possible into Thursday, focusing on the early and mid afternoon hours. There is some uncertainty once again about how many storms will develop. Locally heavy rain and strong winds will again be possible.
Between now and Thursday evening, rainfall may be extremely variable. There will likely be numerous places that see little or no rain, while others, possibly just a few miles away, see well over an inch.
Thursday’s highs will reach the mid 80s with dewpoints remaining near or above 70 degrees.

A Bit Cooler
A cold front late Thursday will sweep away the heat and humidity for a time. This will start to take place during the latter part of the afternoon, with winds turning to the west and north and becoming a bit blustery.
Overnight, winds will turn to the northwest and north, with lows Thursday night dropping all the way to near 60 degrees.
Friday will have some early clouds, followed by mostly sunny skies for the afternoon. Highs will be in the mid 70s with comfortable dewpoints down into the 50s. Winds will remain from the north, but will generally be light.
Clear skies Friday night will send temperatures into the mid, even low 50s by Saturday morning.
Saturday should have plenty of sunshine early on, but clouds, thin at first, will gradually increase and take control of the sky.
Winds will swing around to the south and then southwest with speeds remaining under 10 mph. Afternoon highs will be in the low 80s with some 70s lingering in the higher elevations.
Scattered showers and maybe a stray thunderstorm will be possible on Sunday, especially during the morning hours. None of the rain is expected to be heavy or particularly long lasting, and some areas will probably remain dry.
Morning lows will be in the mid 60s thanks to the clouds and southerly breeze Saturday night, but highs will only make it to around 80 degrees.
Sunshine will rule Monday and likely Tuesday with just a few stray clouds from time to time. Temperatures will start to creep upward, with low 80s Monday and mid 80s Tuesday.
It may become hot and humid again toward the end of next week, followed by an increase in rain chances toward the weekend.
Late July Focus Shift
I will be taking a bit of a break with less frequent updates due to various family commitments between this Friday, the 18th through around Tuesday the 29th.
As always, the Zip Code Forecasts will be updated daily… but blog posts will be more sporadic and focused on potential hazards, rather than the day to day details.
By the beginning of August, I will be back in my daily routine.
