Early Week Weather

The weather pattern across the Finger Lakes will be a touch more active this week, though significant relief from the recent dry weather is unlikely.

Today will be a quiet day between weather systems as high pressure passes through the area.

Skies will be sunny with thin clouds high in the atmosphere mixing in. These clouds should have minimal impact on the available sunshine.

Winds will be out of the northeast at 5-10 mph, helping hold temperatures in the 70s. Most areas will be in the mid 70s, with a few warmer and colder pockets in the usual areas.

Mostly clear skies are expected tonight, though passing thin clouds will remain a possibility. Winds will go calm, then pick back up from the southeast.

Overnight lows will be between 50-55 degrees with pockets of upper 40s, especially in Steuben and Cortland counties.

Clouds will slowly increase and thicken on Tuesday, and a few stray showers may build into the region before the sun sets.

Southeast winds will turn to the south, staying under 10 mph. Temperatures will rise a bit, with low 80s across the plains between Lake Ontario and the Finger Lakes and into the Genesee Valley. Upper 70s are likely most other areas, with a few mid 70s in higher elevations.

Chances for rain will increase Tuesday night with on and off showers likely. With the clouds and showers, it will be a bit warmer Tuesday night. Lows will mainly be in the low to mid 60s.

Rain showers will continue on Wednesday, and a couple rumbles of thunder may even be possible.

Rain amounts between Tuesday night and Wednesday will vary, but only isolated pockets will have a shot at seeing over a half inch. Some other pockets, meanwhile, will see under a tenth of an inch.

Temperatures on Wednesday will be held down into the mid 70s with limited sunshine. South winds will continue with speeds until to 10 mph until turning light and variable later in the afternoon.

Late Week Weather

A few stray showers may linger across the area on Thursday morning, but as a whole, it should be a sunnier, drier day than Wednesday.

Temperatures will get a small boost with the extra sunshine, with highs averaging out around 80 degrees. Thursday night, however, will be a bit cooler with a return of 50s for most areas.

Friday looks like a quiet day with warm temperatures. Most areas should be in the low 80s, and a few mid 80s will be possible across the north. Winds look light and variable.

South winds will return on Saturday with speeds near or above 10 mph. Temperatures will increase to the mid and even upper 80s. Dewpoints will reach their highest point for the week in the mid and upper 60s, making it feel a bit muggy.

The increased heat and humidity may lead to a few showers and thunderstorms, especially during the afternoon. How exactly these evolve is too far out to tell.

Sunday will have a higher chance for showers and storms as a cold front approaches the region. The chance for a stronger storm or two will need to be monitored, but the overall setup does not look too favorable for widespread severe weather.

Rain amounts will depend on how the thunderstorms evolve, but there is at least a chance for some more substantial rainfall.

Temperatures will take a dip behind this system, and there could even be a day or two next week where most areas fail to reach 70 degrees. Temperatures reaching 80 degrees looks like a tall order throughout the week.
