Incoming Front
Another mainly quiet day is ahead today before the weather turns more active tomorrow.
Like the last few days, today will see a mix of sun and fair-weather clouds which rise and fall with the temperatures during the daytime heating cycle.
A stray spit of rain cannot be totally ruled out this afternoon, but most areas will remain completely dry.
A gentle southerly breeze will blow with speeds around or just over 5 mph. This will nudge temperatures up just a little over yesterday. Most areas will reach the upper 70s, with highs around 80 degrees across the I-90 and I-390 corridors. Higher elevations will be in the mid 70s.
Skies will turn mostly clear this evening, and southerly winds will increase to around 10 mph. Some thin clouds may move in after midnight.
It will be a milder night with lows around or just under 60 degrees for most areas.
Clouds will increase tomorrow morning, and rain showers will start to move in during the afternoon.
Ahead of the rain, temperatures will be driven into the mid 70s by gusty south winds. Wind speeds will be near or over 15 mph with gusts of 30-40 mph.
Showers and a few thunderstorms will increase during the afternoon, becoming most widespread during the second half of the afternoon over the eastern half of the region. A couple stronger storms may enhance the already gusty winds and produce some localized wind damage.
Localized areas may also see multiple rounds of heavy rain, which could lead to some poor drainage ponding. Significant flash flooding is not expected.
The rain will pull out during the evening hours with winds becoming light from the west, then calm overnight. Lows will dip down into the low 50s with some 40s in the western Southern Tier.

More Rain Saturday
Friday is looking quiet as a small area of high pressure slides quickly through the region.
Winds will turn back to the south early in the morning and will once again become blustery by the afternoon as they turn to the southwest. Wind speeds will be up around 15 mph again with gusts of 30-35 mph.
Temperatures will remain mild in the mid 70s with the wind and a mix of sun and clouds.
Rain will redevelop over the region after midnight Friday night and will continue into Saturday morning. The heaviest rain may fall just east of the region, but some areas from Elmira to Syracuse and eastward may see half an inch or more of rainfall.
A lingering shower will be possible Saturday afternoon, especially in those eastern areas. Most of the region should turn out dry, though.
Light northwest winds near 5 mph will set up on Saturday, importing cooler air. With little in the way of sunshine, high temperatures will only manage the mid 60s.
Temperatures Saturday night will range through the 40s, with low and mid 40s to the south and upper 40s to near 50 degrees across the north.
A few stray showers will be possible on Sunday, but it should not be a washout by any means. Breaks of sunshine between the clouds will be likely.
Winds Sunday will remain from the northwest, picking up a little with speeds of 5-10 mph. Highs will again be held to the mid 60s.
Whether any stray showers fall on Monday is uncertain, but as a whole, it should be even drier than Sunday.
Morning lows will be similarly cool in the 40s, and afternoon highs should again be held to the mid 60s.
Tuesday morning will need to be watched for the cold as temperatures flirt with the 30s across southern areas. Patchy frost is not out of the question, though it is far too early to tell for sure.
Temperatures should rebound to near 70 degrees Tuesday afternoon with sun and clouds.
The rest of next week looks dry with temperatures remaining near or just above 70 degrees during the daytime hours and down into the 40s at night.
