Late Week Weather Forecast
A couple of weather systems will exert their influence on our weather over the next few days, but unfortunately, that will not include much, if any, rain.
Low pressure along the Mid-Atlantic coast is spreading some cloud cover into the area this morning. Most of these are thin clouds, but some thicker patches are also showing up.
This will continue to be the case throughout the day with varying degrees of filtered sunshine.
High pressure over New England will block this low from tracking further north, so no rain is expected with any of the clouds today.
Winds will be light from the east with speeds near or under 5 mph. The lack of southerly winds and the cloud cover will knock temperatures back slightly, with most areas in the mid 70s. Upper 70s and even some low 80s are more likely in the Genesee Valley and up toward Rochester, where clouds will likely remain thin.
Skies will gradually clear tonight as the low dissipates. Overnight lows will be in the low and mid 50s.
Thursday will be mostly sunny. Morning winds will be light and variable, followed by afternoon winds near 5 mph from the northwest.
Temperatures will jump back up with the full sunshine, with highs near or slightly above 80 degrees for many.
A cold front will then drop south late Thursday night into Friday morning. A few spits of rain may accompany the front, but this will be scarcely enough to measure, let alone matter.
Steady north and northwest winds will develop on Friday with speeds up to 10 mph. These winds will bring in a shot of cool air.
Highs Friday will range from the mid 60s near Lake Ontario to the low 70s in the valleys of the Southern Tie. Most areas will be in the upper 60s.
Dry Weekend, Rain Next Week Uncertain
Cool air will remain in place for the start of the weekend but will not last long.
Light to nearly calm winds and clear skies Friday night will lead to a chilly Saturday morning. Lows should be well down into the 40s with some pockets of 30s possible. Patchy frost potential will need to be monitored in and around Cortland County and for parts of the Southern Tier.
Saturday will be another day of full sunshine. Winds will remain northerly, but light, with speeds near or under 5 mph. Afternoon highs should be a degree or two warmer than Friday, with most areas around 70 degrees.
Winds will turn southerly Saturday night, holding overnight temperatures in the upper half of the 40s for most areas.
After sunrise Sunday, the winds will increase with speeds of 10-15 mph and gusts as high as 25 mph.
The wind will help push temperatures back into the upper 70s, with a few places cracking 80 degrees again. Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds.
Early next week, a weather system should bring a chance for some rain, but the models keep pushing it off and becoming less certain that it will actually amount to anything significant. Time will tell.
Beyond early next week, the models are all over the place as far as temperatures and rain chances, so there are not many early conclusions to draw about this time period.
