Temperatures Take A Dip
High pressure will deliver another sunny, warm day today before a cold front slides through the region overnight tonight.
Throughout most of the day, skies will be sunny with few if any clouds whatsoever.
The bright sunshine will get temperatures back to where they were on Tuesday, with highs a couple degrees on either side of 80 degrees for the majority of the region.
This will be the case despite some northwest winds this afternoon with speeds of 5-7 mph.
There will be a better chance for some clouds around sunset with skies becoming mostly cloudy during the evening hours.
The front will arrive during the middle of the night and should mostly clear the region by sunrise Friday. Clouds and a few showers are likely overnight and into early Friday. Any rain that falls will be very light and will bring no relief to the deepening drought.
Overnight lows will mainly be in the mid 50s with some upper 50s near the lake shores.
Clouds will linger Friday morning, but the afternoon should turn sunny. North winds will blow with speeds up to 10 mph, importing much cooler air.
Temperatures in the 70s will be limited to the broad valleys of the Southern Tier on Friday, while some higher elevations and areas north of I-90 may not escape the mid 60s.
North winds will drop to a whisper Friday night with clear skies through the overnight. With the cold air mass in place, expect a chilly overnight and early morning Saturday. Most areas will see lows between 40-45 degrees. Colder pockets, especially in and around Cortland County, may see 30s and even a little patchy frost.

Warm Weather Returns, Possibly With Some Rain
Saturday afternoon will remain mostly sunny with very light north and northeast winds. Most areas should see temperatures a couple degrees higher than Friday, generally somewhere around 70 degrees.
A south wind will gradually develop Saturday night, preventing temperatures from dropping as much as the night before. Still, many areas will end up below 50 degrees.
The south winds will increase to near or over 10 mph Sunday morning and persist through Sunday afternoon. Skies will be a mix of sunny periods and cloudy ones, but no rain is expected.
The southerly winds will cause temperatures to warm, with highs in the mid and even upper 70s.
High temperatures should be back around 80 degrees for Monday and Tuesday next week. Monday night in particular will be mild with overnight lows around 60 degrees.
Scattered showers and perhaps a thunderstorm will be possible both Monday and Tuesday. There is better agreement among the models today that this rain will happen compared to what they were showing yesterday.
Early rainfall estimations are hopeful for amounts over a half-inch. Even that will not really help reverse drought conditions, but it should at least reduce the speed of its onset for a little while.
While uncertainty is high, the overall pattern looks a bit more conducive for rainfall again late next week and the following weekend, and possibly into the week beyond.
Temperatures next week are more likely to stay in the 70s, but some cooler air may be possible thereafter.
