Changing Temperatures
A strong high pressure system will keep a firm grip on our weather this week as it travels across eastern Canada, then south toward the Mid-Atlantic region.
The uncertainty in the weather related to tropical systems Humberto and Imelda has been cleared up, and neither system should have an impact on our weather, or even make a United States landfall.
The key question was whether Imelda would be able to get out ahead of Humberto and approach the coast of the Carolinas. This has not happened, and over the next few days, the much stronger Humberto should drag Imelda behind it out to sea, away from the United States.
Filling that void will be this large high pressure system, which will keep the weather sunny, but temperatures fluctuating.
Today, clear skies will persist this morning, but a deck of clouds will push in from the south this afternoon. These clouds will filter out the sunshine a bit but probably will not completely block it.
The clouds will persist overnight, with the opposite pattern unfolding on Tuesday, when morning clouds depart for afternoon sun.
Winds will be nearly calm today, tonight, and Tuesday morning. A north wind will gradually increase on Tuesday, with speeds near or over 10 mph during the second half of the afternoon.

Temperatures today will be in the mid and upper 70s and low 80s. Upper 40s and low 50s are expected tonight, with highs Tuesday in the mid 70s, except north of I-90 where low 70s are more likely.
North winds will continue to push cooler air in on Wednesday. Skies will remain sunny, but highs will only be between 60-65 degrees.
This will set up the coldest night yet this season on Wednesday night, with many areas down into the mid and upper 30s. Only the lakeshore areas should stick near or above 40 degrees. Widespread frost will be possible, especially across the southern half of the region.
Thursday will have some passing thin clouds as winds turn to the southeast. Highs will be just a touch warmer than Wednesday, mainly in the mid 60s.
Next weekend will continue to be dry with sunshine and occasional thin clouds. Temperatures will be climbing once again.
Highs Friday will return to the low 70s, while Saturday will be in the mid and upper 70s. Sunday will be similar to today with upper 70s and a few low 80s possible. Overnight temperatures will stick mainly to the 40s.
Our next chance for rain may not come until the middle of next week, but it is hard to tell at this point if what the models are showing is real, or just typical noise that shows up on the models at that range.
