Late Week Weather
Many areas saw their coldest temperatures so far this year this morning thanks to high pressure moving into northern New England.
As the high continues to drop south, eventually reaching the Mid-Atlantic coast, warmer air will start to move in thanks to the southerly return flow on the backside of the high.
As this process starts to unfold today, batches of mainly thin clouds will pass through the region. Sometimes, the clouds may do little to filter the sun, while other times they may be a bit thicker and more widespread.
Overall, though, there should still be plenty of sunshine today, and rain is out of the question.
Winds will be from the south at around 5 mph. Temperatures will mainly be in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees, with both warmer and cooler pockets.
South winds will increase slightly tonight with additional batches of clouds. Temperatures will be around 10 degrees warmer overnight as a result, with mid 40s across the south and lows around 50 degrees to the north.
The clouds should clear out very early Friday, leaving mostly sunny skies for the majority of the day. Light south winds will persist, turning more to the southwest during the afternoon.
Temperatures will be warmer, returning to the mid and even upper 70s for most areas.
Some mid and upper 40s will remain across the Southern Tier and into Cortland County Saturday morning, but the rest of the area should be in the low or even mid 50s to start the weekend.

Weather This Weekend and Next Week
High pressure will remain in place along the Mid-Atlantic coast through the weekend and into early next week.
This will keep us locked into a southerly flow, leading to a warm weekend and start to next week.
Saturday will push into the upper 70s with a fair number of places, mainly across the northern half of the region, flirting with 80 degrees.
Winds will be light, generally under 5 mph. Some thin clouds will mix with the sunshine at times.
Sunday will be mostly sunny with many areas around 80 degrees. Monday will be warmest with highs a degree or two over Sunday with lots of low 80s.
Some thin clouds will start to move in on Monday, and by Tuesday, the high pressure system will be breaking down.
Temperatures will depend on cloud cover on Tuesday but should not be lower than the mid 70s. There is a chance for another day at or above 80 degrees, though. Winds may pick up, still from a south or southwesterly direction.
Rain will likely hold off until Wednesday, but is likely to move through at some point as a cold front arrives. While early, there is a chance for several hours of steady rain, and models are currently averaging between a half inch and an inch of rainfall.
Behind this front will be another shot of chilly air with highs Thursday possibly sticking to the 50s.
The weather becomes too uncertain to draw any firm conclusions as we head toward next weekend and beyond.
