Early Week Weather

The low pressure system that brought wind and warm temperatures yesterday continues to move through the area with rain early Monday.

Widespread showers are throughout the region and will continue for much of the morning. The rain will gradually taper off from southwest to northeast during the midday and afternoon hours.

Gusty winds are once again expected to develop, this time coming in from the west-northwest with cooler air. The wind will be close to, but not quite as strong as yesterday, with top gusts around 40 mph.

Temperatures will change little today and will mostly hold steady in the low and mid 50s. A few of the typically warmer valley and urban locations may manage to reach the upper 50s.

Late in the afternoon, clouds will break up, again from southwest to northeast, allowing for a little sun for most areas. Clear skies will overtake the region tonight with wind speeds dropping and turning to the southwest and south.

Overnight lows will range from the mid and upper 30s across the south to the low 40s near the lakes and across northern areas.

Tuesday morning will have some sunshine, but another weather system will swing in from the west during the midday and afternoon hours. Clouds and a few scattered showers will accompany this system, as will south and southwest winds of 10-15 mph and a couple gusts to 30 mph.

Most of the rain tomorrow will be short-lived, so the majority of the day should end up dry.

Afternoon highs will mostly be in the low 60s. Higher elevations may end up just short of 60 degrees, while a few valley and urban centers may approach 65 degrees.

This system will hang around Tuesday night and through Wednesday. Showers will increase, but remain scattered, lingering throughout the day Wednesday.

Winds on Wednesday will remain breezy from the southwest, but by this time, cool air will be wrapping around the system and back into the area. Morning lows will mainly be in the low 40s thanks to the clouds and showers, but afternoon highs will struggle to reach the mid 50s.

Late Week and Weekend Weather

By Thursday, low pressure will be over eastern Canada, slowly lifting northeast away from the region.

However, there will still be showers lingering across the area, partially enhanced by the Great Lakes.

As a whole, Thursday will probably be less rainy than Wednesday, but rainier than Tuesday. There should be dry pockets throughout the day between showers.

West winds will remain blustery at 10-15 mph with gusts around or slightly over 25 mph.

Thursday will be cooler than Wednesday, with lows in the 35-45 degree range and afternoon highs in the low 50s. Some higher elevations may not reach 50 degrees.

Winds will turn to the northwest on Friday, leading to some more scattered showers off Lake Ontario. Like Tuesday and Thursday, there will not be a huge number of showers, and there will be dry periods mixed in.

Friday will be the coolest day of the week. Morning lows will be in the mid and upper 30s, while afternoon highs will be in the upper 40s in many higher elevations, with low 50s elsewhere.

The weekend is mainly looking dry. A stray spit of rain near Lake Ontario cannot be ruled out on Saturday, but otherwise, there should be clouds with some breaks of sun.

Winds will finally back off with speeds around 5 mph from the northwest, becoming calm late in the day.

Morning lows will range through the 30s, while afternoon highs should mostly be between 50-55 degrees.

Sunday morning will be similarly chilly, while afternoon highs will see more areas making it into the mid 50s. A stray shower late in the day may be possible.

An active weather pattern will remain next week as well, keeping rain frequently in the forecast.

Temperatures may get a bit of a boost toward the middle of next week as a larger weather system takes shape to our west.
