A cool weather pattern with at least a few daily showers will keep a strong grip on our region for the foreseeable future. While rain is possible daily, most days will only have a few sporadic showers. The highest chances for steadier rain will be today and late Monday. Areas of frost are likely late this week and into the weekend with morning lows well into the 30s.
Wednesday
What: Scattered showers turning to steadier rain.
The morning hours will be mostly dry with just a few stray showers. Rain showers will gradually increase during the midday and early afternoon, turning to a steady rain for the latter half of the afternoon and evening. Embedded downpours are possible, which will push some areas over an inch of rainfall. Most areas should see between three-quarters and an inch. Winds will be from the south and southeast and not as strong as on Tuesday. Afternoon highs will mainly be in the 50s, though a few areas could hit 60 degrees.
Thursday
What: Scattered showers.
Low pressure will pass by Wednesday night, turning winds to the northwest by Thursday morning. Blustery winds will persist throughout the day, importing cooler air on gusts as high as 30 mph. Afternoon highs will range from the upper 40s to the low 50s. Rain will be limited to a few pop up showers, especially in the afternoon. Some areas will probably stay dry all day.
Temperatures Thursday night will drop down into the low and mid 30s. Areas of frost are likely, especially across the southern half of the region and in typical cold pockets. For some areas, the growing season officially begins on May 1, which is Friday, so there may be some frost advisories issued. However, the coldest areas most at risk for frost do not start having Frost Advisories until May 15th, so the areas most at risk Thursday-Saturday night will likely not see advisories issued.
Friday
What: A few showers with some sun in between.
Steady northwest winds will remain in place on Friday, but will not be as blustery as on Thursday. Sporadic showers will be possible, especially during the midday and afternoon hours. Between showers, some breaks of sun will be possible. The overall chances for rain will be higher than on Thursday, but it will not be a washout like later Wednesday.
High temperatures will be around 50 degrees. Another chance for frost will develop Friday night with lows ranging through the low and mid 30s, similar to the night before.
Saturday
What: A few showers with some sun in between.
Light west-northwest winds will blow on Saturday. A few sporadic showers are possible, but most areas should be dry most of the day, and some will not see any rain at all. It will be a chilly day, though, with highs failing to reach 50 degrees most areas.
Saturday night will be similar to the previous two with areas of frost likely.
Sunday
What: Clouds and some sun. Only a stray shower.
Sunday probably as the lowest chance for rain of the upcoming days, with just a few stray showers possible. Most areas will likely remain dry, though sunshine will still be limited to brief breaks between clouds. Winds will increase over Saturday and a few gusts over 30 mph will be possible, coming in from the west and northwest. Afternoon highs will struggle to get into the low 50s.
Winds will turn to the southwest Sunday night, holding temperatures in the 40s overnight with no risk for frost.
Monday
What: A few showers.
The chances for rain will go up slightly on Monday, particularly late in the day. At this time, the rain should remain showery at most, and some areas may get through the daytime hours with little to no rainfall, but most should see rain by evening. Southwest winds will be blustery, helping temperatures inch upward into the mid 50s.
Tuesday
What: A few showers, mostly early.
As Monday night’s weather system departs, a few showers may linger into early Tuesday before a mainly dry afternoon. West-northwest winds will be blustery, but temperatures have a shot at reaching the upper 50s.
Late Next Week
A stronger weather system looks possible late next week with another shot of higher rain amounts. Temperatures may rise ahead of this system, possibly breaking into the 60s for a day or two. However, the overall cool, showery pattern looks like it will remain locked in place. Next weekend will need to be watched for potential frost concerns. This pattern may extend deep into May.
