This week will get off to a cool start with highs in the 60s today. The rest of the week should push into the 70s with several chances for rain. Thursday in particular will need to be watched for any potential thunderstorms. The rest of the days will likely just have some sporadic showers.

Monday

What: More clouds than sun

Cool northwest winds will blow throughout the day Monday, keeping temperatures locked into the 60s. There will be breaks of sun, particularly in the morning and late in the afternoon, but overall clouds will win out. Precipitation is not expected.

Tonight, skies will become clear and temperatures will fall into the upper 40s and low 50s. Typically colder outlying areas will probably reach the mid 40s.

Tuesday

What: Sun and clouds. A few stray showers late.

Winds will turn to the southwest Monday night become steady near 10 mph during the day Tuesday. This will lead to highs in the low and mid 70s. Skies will be a mix of sun and clouds. A few showers may pop up during the afternoon, particularly across the northern half of the region. Some additional showers may be possible overnight as well. Temperatures Tuesday night will drop to the mid 50s.

Wednesday

What: Scattered showers, maybe a thunderstorm

Rain chances will increase on Wednesday, but at this time, it does not look like all areas will see rain. The afternoon seems like the most likely time for rain showers, and a few weak thunderstorms could end up developing as well. The eastern half of the region will have the highest chances for rain. Temperatures will remain steady in the mid 70s. South winds will be a bit blustery with speeds of 10-15 mph and gusts approaching 30 mph.

Thursday

What: Watching storm potential

A strong low pressure system will be nearby on Thursday, providing strong wind profiles over the lower levels of the atmosphere and blustery surface winds. The big question will be whether the timing of the associated cold front will allow for the atmosphere to become even slightly unstable and conducive for thunderstorm development. With the atmospheric winds as they are, anything that pops will need to be watched closely for severe potential. At this time, it is too early to tell much about how this may evolve, though generally speaking, the greater severe threat will likely be to our south across the Mid-Atlantic region. Stay tuned.

Friday

What: Scattered showers

With the low pressure system lingering nearby, scattered showers look likely on Friday. It will does not look like a washout of a day, though. Temperatures will be a touch cooler with highs slightly above 70 degrees. Winds will still be breezy, from the northwest, but not as strong as on Thursday.

Weekend

What: Maybe a few showers

The details on the weekend are still quite uncertain, but generally speaking, it does not look too wet. Saturday may have a few lingering showers, but Sunday is currently looking dry. This will likely need adjusting over the coming days with an active weather pattern persisting, but there should be plenty of dry time mixed in this weekend. Temperatures will be cool with highs possibly dipping back into the 60s for some with low 70s elsewhere.

Further Out

Cool, unsettled weather looks like it will stick around next week as well. Slightly warmer air may be possible by the final days of June, but it not out of the question that some areas may have a hard time reaching 80 degrees again this month.

Rain will be likely on several days next week, but it is too early to pinpoint exactly which days. The potential for heavy rain also exists, especially early next week.
