Friday cold front sets up pleasant weekend weather

A few isolated showers and storms may pop up late Thursday, with additional scattered showers on Friday as a cold front pushes through. Sunshine and dry air will dominate the weekend with comfortable dewpoints in the 50s. Heat and humidity will build back in next week, but much of the week should turn out dry.

Thursday

What: Maybe a few afternoon storms.

Most areas will stay dry on Thursday with the typical summertime mix of sun and clouds. During the later afternoon, a few storm cells may pop up. These should remain fairly isolated as the track east into the early evening hours. Temperatures will peak in the mid and upper 80s with dewpoints in the upper 60s. Winds will be southwest 5-10 mph. Thursday night will be partly cloudy with lows in the upper 60s to around 70 degrees.

 

Friday

What: Some rain showers

A cold front will move through on Friday during the early to mid morning hours. There will be a few showers along the front, with a few more popping up in the afternoon. The southern half of the region will have the highest chances for rain during the afternoon. Isolated thunderstorms may also be possible at either time, but most areas that see rain will see it without thunder.

Winds will be from the northwest, then north, with speeds around 5 mph. Temperatures will be knocked back to the upper 70s and low 80s, though it will still be muggy until dewpoints approaching 70 degrees until they start to retreat some late in the day.

Friday night should be partly cloudy with maybe a few spits of rain, mainly in the south. Lows will be in the low and mid 60s.

 

Saturday

What: Increasing sun.

Saturday morning could have a stray shower early, but most areas should start dry with a mix of sun and clouds. By the afternoon, skies should become mostly sunny. A slight haze in the sky is possible due to some smoke from Canadian wildfires, but early projections are that air quality will be slightly, but not seriously reduced.

Afternoon highs will be in the upper 70s with a low dewpoints in the 50s. Winds will be out of the north around 10 mph. Saturday night will be clear with lows mainly in the mid and upper 50s.

 

Sunday

What: Sunny, a few clouds.

High pressure will pass overhead on Sunday, keeping winds light and variable. Sunshine will be abundant with just some thin clouds and some haze from lingering smoke. Temperatures will be around 80, but humidity will remain comfortably low with dewpoints staying in the 50s. Sunday night will have some thin clouds with lows in the upper 50s and low 60s.

 

Monday

What: Maybe a shower or storm.

Monday’s weather is a bit uncertain with a chance for a few showers or storms to pop up. Many areas will probably stay dry. Temperatures will make it into the mid 80s with humidity increasing a little with dewpoints around 60. Winds will be from the west and southwest at 10-15 mph.

 

Tuesday

What: Sun and clouds.

Warm, dry weather is expected on Tuesday with highs pushing to around 90 degrees. The increase in humidity will be noticeable with dewpoints in the mid and upper 60s.

 

Wednesday

What: Sun and clouds.

A small, dry cold front may pass through Tuesday night or early Wednesday. A stray shower cannot totally be ruled out this far in advance, but at this point, most areas look dry. Temperatures will be slightly less hot on Wednesday, but still in the mid or upper 80s with mid 60s dewpoints.

 

Rest of Next Week

Quiet, warm conditions are expected for the end of next week and into the first part of the weekend. Eventually, a cold front will bring a chance for showers sometime around Sunday or Monday with a reset in temperature back closer to 80 degrees.
