Monday morning is dawning sunny across the Finger Lakes, but the clouds will be back by this afternoon.
Sun Makes Brief Appearance
A narrow wedge of high pressure between weather systems has moved into the Finger Lakes for most of the day Monday.
This high pressure has cleared skies across the region for a sunny start to the week. Temperatures are near normal this morning, with lows mostly in the upper 20s. Areas of fog linger, but will gradually burn off this morning.
The extra sunshine will help boost temperatures into the 40s this afternoon. A few places may even flirt with 50 degrees.
However, the sun will not last as a large storm system tracks east across Canada. High, thin clouds will work in this afternoon, gradually becoming thicker towards the evening.
Two Waves of Rain
By the mid to late evening hours, some rain showers will start to move into the Finger Lakes. Rain will overspread the region overnight before pulling out Tuesday morning. Rain amounts will generally be less than a half inch.
Tuesday will be mild, with highs well into the 50s and just a few lingering showers. Temperatures will slide back into the 40s Tuesday night with more fog developing.
A second, heavier batch of rain will move in Wednesday morning. This rain should persist into the afternoon hours, with a half inch or more possible.
Temperatures Wednesday will again top out in the 50s.
The week will end with temperatures returning to the 40s with some scattered rain and snow showers Thursday, Friday and into the weekend.
