Sunshine Returns

Sunshine will return to the Finger Lakes for the next few days as high pressure builds in.

Skies are already sunny Saturday morning across the region. The sunshine will continue, though fair weather clouds will start to bubble up later on this morning.

This afternoon, a couple of widely isolated showers may pop up as the clouds grow. Almost all of the Finger Lakes should be rain free. Those that do see rain should only see a brief period of rain.

Temperatures will be comfortable today. Look for highs mostly in the low 80s with a few mid 80s in the Rochester and Syracuse areas.

It will be less humid than the last few days, but still a touch muggy for some. That humidity is leading to some valley fog Saturday morning and will do so again Sunday morning.

Sunday should be quite sunny from start to finish. Again, some fair weather clouds will develop, but no rain is expected.

Temperatures will get a bit warmer, with highs in the mid and upper 80s with a couple of places hitting 90 degrees.

Sunday will be rather muggy, making it feel a bit hotter than it actually is.

Winds this weekend will generally be quite light. Saturday’s winds will be from the west and northwest while Sunday’s winds swing around to the southwest.

More Typical Weather Next Week

The Finger Lakes went from being stuck in a pattern of dry weather to a pattern of clouds and rain.

This coming week looks a little less extreme and more normal.

Monday will build off of Sunday, with more sunshine and hot weather. Most places will reach or exceed 90 degrees with upper 80s in the higher elevations.

Heat index values will rise into the mid 90s.

Then, a storm system will approach the region. Rather than hanging around for a week, this system will progressively move through later Tuesday and early Wednesday.

The thunderstorm potential Tuesday will need to be watched, as there does appear to be at least some support for strong thunderstorms. With temperatures pushing 90 degrees again before the storms arrive, there could be plenty of fuel to work with, too.

Showers are more likely early Wednesday as the system moves off to the east. The week should then end with comfortable temperatures and sunshine.
