Winter Weather Advisories have been issued across the Southern Tier and southern Finger Lakes, including for places such as Corning, Elmira, Ithaca, and Cortland.

The main threat is for icy conditions on untreated road surfaces and over higher elevations. Also use caution walking on driveways, sidewalks, and decks.

Special Weather Statements, which is less serious than an advisory, are also in effect from Yates to Onondaga counties. Here, a few pockets of freezing rain may exist, but the overall threat for ice is less.

These alerts will expire soon at 8am as precipitation continues to track east and temperatures rise above 32 degrees. By this afternoon, some sun should work out and temperatures will rise to or above 40 degrees.

Please be careful this morning.
