Front will work back West
A sharp front has made its way through the Finger Lakes and into Central New York this morning.
Temperatures across the Finger Lakes are in the low 40s and upper 30s, yet low 60s remain in place as close as Binghamton.
This front extends south into the Appalachians, where an area of low pressure over West Virginia is lifting north. This low will move to a position over western New York later this afternoon.
Warm air ahead of the low will help push the frontal boundary back to the west. Despite the chilly start, most of the Finger Lakes will end up on the warm side of the front today.
High temperatures could reach or exceed 70 degrees for the Southern Tier and areas east of Cayuga Lake. Temperatures into the 60s will be possible for most of the remainder of the Finger Lakes, though areas near Rochester may stick in the 50s.
The temperature forecast for areas west of Seneca Lake does have a certain degree (no pun intended) of uncertainty still, with 40s and 50s a possibility.
There could be a couple of small thunderstorms that pop up in the warm air during the mid-afternoon hours.
These will be very small and isolated storms, but one or two locations could see some minor severe weather, including small hail, a few strong wind gusts, and possibly even a very brief, very weak tornado. The chances for that remain quite low.
Easter Forecast
Easter morning is looking quiet across the Finger Lakes. Some areas may even start the day with sunny skies.
Temperatures will be more uniform across the region, though it will still be a bit cooler in the west compared to areas in the east. West of Seneca Lake, expect sunrise temperatures in the upper 30s and low 40s with mid 40s to the east.
The sun will be in an out of clouds throughout the day. A brief, stray shower cannot be ruled out either, but most areas will be dry. Winds will be gentle for a nice change.
High temperatures will reach the low 60s throughout the region.
Next Week Preview
The weather should be a bit less extreme next week with temperatures generally sticking near normal and winds remaining light.
The week looks warmer at the start, with highs Monday and Tuesday into the 60s. Wednesday, Thursday, and Friday currently look to be in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees.
There will be chances for rain, especially Tuesday night into early Wednesday, and on Friday. Additional showers will be possible on Thursday as well.
