Dry Air Holding On

Moisture is trying to work into the Finger Lakes this morning, but dry air associated with high pressure along the New England coast has other plans.

Showers look plentiful on the radar early this morning. However, most of these are not reaching the ground as the rain evaporates in the atmosphere.

A little rain is reaching the ground in the Southern Tier and northwest Pennsylvania. The trend should be for showers to reach the ground further north and east as the morning goes on.

Precipitation should be spotty and light and should only last into the early afternoon. The rest of the afternoon should be dry with clouds and some breaks of sun.

Look for highs to reach the mid 70s this afternoon.

A front will push toward the region on Wednesday with a much better chance for rain.

A band of showers will move into the Finger Lakes before dawn. After sunrise, this area should expand, strengthen, and slow down.

Several hours of steady rain will be possible, especially from Penn Yan eastward. A few rumbles of thunder may also be possible.

The rain should exit the Finger Lakes during the mid afternoon, though areas west of Penn Yan will see the rain end much sooner.

Temperatures will be near 70 degrees while it rains and in the mid 70s behind the rain.

End of Week and Holiday Weekend

Thursday looks like a dry, pleasant day behind the front. Look for plenty of sunshine and temperatures in the low and mid 70s.

Another front will bring a few scattered showers on Friday. Most of the day should be dry, and the rain that falls will be light. High temperatures will be in the mid and upper 70s.

Saturday looks dry at this time. Temperatures will be in the low 70s behind Friday’s front. Sunday has a better chance for rain. If it is a rainy day, only look for highs to reach the mid 60s.

Labor Day on Monday should bounce back into the 70s after some morning showers.
