Severe thunderstorm watch

The first Severe Thunderstorm Watch of the season has been issued for portions of the western Finger Lakes and all of Western New York.

Scattered strong and severe thunderstorms will develop during the early and mid-afternoon ahead of an approaching cold front. Locally damaging wind gusts and large hail are the primary threats.

The severe threat is *unlikely* to spread further east with temperatures not getting as warm. Still, a few rumbles of thunder and some gusty winds will be possible.

Remember…a WATCH means conditions are favorable for severe thunderstorms and should be monitored. A WARNING means severe weather is ongoing.

FLX Weather counties in the watch (listed alphabetically): Allegany, Genesee, Livingston, Monroe, Ontario, Wayne, Wyoming.
