Monday and Tuesday Snow

A milder weather pattern is beginning to set up across the Finger Lakes, but a couple of quick systems will also keep the early week pattern snowy.

The first of these systems is moving into the Finger Lakes this morning. Widespread snow is occurring in the region in two batches.

The first batch developed out ahead of the main area and, as of 7 AM, was moving through the eastern Finger Lakes. The second, larger batch was moving into the western Finger Lakes and will track east through the morning.

Both of these batches of snow will have periods of moderate to heavy snow that will make for some slick travel conditions. This will especially be the case as the snow first starts falling and road conditions deteriorate quickly.

Accumulations should be limited to an inch or two for most areas, but a few localized pockets of three inches are possible.

The snow will end early this afternoon and a few breaks of sun may sneak out. Temperatures will rise into the low and mid 30s.

Late in the afternoon and early this evening, a few more snow showers will be possible as a cold front moves through. These snow showers will be scattered and brief, with little to no additional accumulation.

Temperatures will drop into the upper 20s before winds swing around to the south again ahead of the second system.

Snow will again move through the Finger Lakes tomorrow morning, but will probably be a bit less intense and shorter-lived. The snow may arrive more towards the mid morning hours with a few snow showers lingering to the afternoon as well.

High temperatures on Tuesday will be in the mid 30s with nighttime temperatures around 30.

Warm Wednesday, Weekend

Another weak system will approach the Finger Lakes on Wednesday, but will approach from the northwest late in the day.

Ahead of this, much of Wednesday will be sunny with steady south winds. This will give temperatures a big boost.

The warmest air will be along the I-90 corridor and west of Cayuga Lake, encompassing a large portion of the Finger Lakes. In these areas, low 50s are a real possibility. Further southeast, mid and upper 40s are more likely.

Late Wednesday, a few rain showers will move in as winds turn to the west. Temperatures will fall through the 40s late in the afternoon and through the 30s for the evening.

A few flurries will be possible on Thursday, especially in the morning, with temperatures starting in the upper 20s. Highs Thursday will reach the low to perhaps mid 30s.

Friday will be a sunny day as temperatures start to come back up. Highs should be in the mid to upper 30s.

Another weather system looks possible on Saturday. With temperatures expected to return to the 40s, most of the precipitation should fall as rain. Rainfall amounts look low.

Sunshine will return for Sunday with temperatures climbing into the 40s.

As we head into March, temperatures look to remain generally in the 30s and 40s. Snow chances look relatively low, but quick shots like today and tomorrow will remain a possibility.
