Very Warm Weather
A series of low pressure systems will slowly move through the middle of the nation while high pressure strengthens off the coast of New England.
This pattern will result in southerly winds across the Finger Lakes today, which will help the sunny skies significantly warm the atmosphere.
Temperatures are a hodge-podge to start this morning, with some areas in the upper 30s while nearby locations are in the low 50s. Once the sun starts to climb higher in the sky and the south winds kick in, these temperature differences will be mixed out and everyone will see warm air.
Highs will be warmest today in the Rochester area, where upper 70s or even 80 degrees is likely. Mid and upper 70s will extend east along I-90, ranging down to the low 70s across the Southern Tier.
Few clouds and no precipitation are expected today. The wind will be noticeable, but not too strong, with speeds around 10 mph and gusts topping out near 25 mph.
Clouds will increase after midnight tonight as a band of precipitation spirals towards the Finger Lakes. This will bring some scattered showers Friday. Areas east of a Geneve-Elmira line have the best shot at seeing showers lingering into the afternoon.
Behind the showers, some sun will work out. This will lead to some differences in the temperatures tomorrow. Where the rain lingers, highs will struggle into the upper 50s and low 60s. Further west, where it may only rain a little during the early morning, highs could reach the upper 60s and low 70s.
Saturday will start with some sunshine, but a deck of thin overcast will build in for the afternoon. It will matter little, though, with south winds pushing highs right back into the 70s. The temperature distribution will be similar to today, with mid and upper 70s along I-90 and low 70s to the south.
Pattern Changes
Sunday looks to be an interesting day with multiple rounds of precipitation possible, with a sunny warm period in between.
The morning will likely start with a band of rain as a warm front lifts through the region. Behind this quick moving rain, the sun will come out and south winds will persist.
After morning lows well into the 50s, it will not take much to boost temperatures once again. If the sun persists long enough, 70s will again be possible.
This will then set the stage for a second batch of precipitation, likely accompanied by some thunderstorms. The atmosphere does not look favorable for any severe thunderstorms.
Low pressure will hang around the Great Lakes for several days early next week. This will bring in cooler temperatures and on and off periods of rain showers. These showers are very likely for Monday and Tuesday, but could linger into Wednesday or even Thursday.
Highs on Monday and Tuesday will still be in the 50s, but for Wednesday and Thursday, temperatures will not escape the 40s. Temperatures should linger in the 40s and 50s through next weekend and into the following week.
