High Pressure
A large area of high pressure dominates the eastern half of the country while a small disturbance is tracking across southern Canada, north of the Upper Great Lakes.
Between these two systems, warmer air is pushing northward. This, in turn, is producing some clouds this morning that should move out and burn off quick as the sun rises.
Most of the day will feature clear, blue skies for the second consecutive day. Southwest winds will persist through the day, with most areas seeing speeds of 5-10 mph and top gusts around 20 mph.
Temperatures will be warmer than yesterday as a result, with higher elevations in the mid 40s and lower elevations in the upper 40s. A couple locations could make it all the way to 50 degrees.
Nighttime temperatures will fall back to the low 30s for most areas with lakeshores staying closer to 35 degrees. Only a few thin clouds are expected, mostly coming after midnight.
The thin clouds will gradually increase on Tuesday. Still, much of the day will have sunshine. It will just become more and more filtered as the day goes on.
Winds will turn to the north as the small Canadian disturbance exits to the east. Temperatures will drop a couple of degrees, with higher elevations in the low 40s and lower elevations just approaching 45 degrees.
The wind on Tuesday will be light and will swing around to the southeast, then south Tuesday night. By Wednesday morning, higher elevations may see gusts of 25-30 mph. Temperatures will reach their lows around midnight in the low and mid 30s, then will add a couple degrees overnight.
A Bit Unsettled
A couple of small weather systems will then move through, bringing some rain back into the forecast.
Clouds will become thick on Wednesday, though some early sun may still poke through some of the clouds early on. Scattered rain showers will move in from the west late in the afternoon and continue into the evening hours.
High temperatures during the day Wednesday will mostly be in the mid 40s. South winds will gust at 25-35 mph with the strongest gusts over the higher elevations. These winds will blow steadily through the night, causing temperatures to hold steady or rise slightly by Thursday morning.
A period of some sun will be possible on Thursday during the first half of the day. If the sun comes out and teams up with the continuing southerly breeze, temperatures will reach the mid and even upper 50s. More clouds would hold temperatures back a couple degrees.
Another batch of rain showers will move in during the afternoon. The rain Thursday looks even less impressive than it does on Wednesday. Though the rain will be quite scattered, a rumble of thunder will be possible and could produce some isolated rain amounts of a quarter inch or more.
Friday will be a quiet day between systems. Expect a mix of sun and clouds and highs in the mid 40s.
The weather becomes much less certain on Saturday as a system tracks nearby or overhead. It is too early to determine precipitation type at this time, though it seems probable that it will at least be warm enough for some brief rain before cooler air ends the precipitation as some flurries.
As we approach Christmas next week, temperatures are favored to return to the 30s, though some days in the 40s could mix in. There are at least small chances for snow, both from lake effect and passing weather systems. Therefore, the jury is still out on the chances for a White Christmas.
