Small Chance for Rain
High pressure over the northern Plains extends eastward into the Finger Lakes region this morning.
Areas of patchy frost have developed in cold pockets underneath clear skies and in the wake of a chilly Sunday. However, temperatures will quickly rise this morning and into the afternoon. Some places will see an increase of thirty-five to forty degrees by the afternoon as highs top out in the upper 60s and low 70s.
Sunshine will be abundant through the day, with only some late thin clouds expected, mostly across northern areas.
Winds today will be light, with speeds under 10 mph. The wind will start from the west-southwest, turn to the northwest, and back to the southwest this evening.
Thin clouds will be slightly more likely overnight, but still, there will be patches of clear sky. The southwest winds will keep temperatures much warmer overnight, with lows Tuesday morning ranging through the 40s.
Tuesday will have some sunshine, but a gradual increase and thickening of clouds. A cold front will drop south late in the afternoon, bringing some showers around sunset. These showers will dissipate as they move south into the Finger Lakes, so the Southern Tier may see little to no rainfall.
Before the rain moves in, west winds will increase to near or over 10 mph with gusts locally as high as 35 mph. Many areas will make it into the mid 70s. The wind will turn to the northwest as the front moves through. By Wednesday morning, most places will be at or slightly below 40 degrees.
Late Week Weather
Chilly air will pour into the region on north-northwest winds on Wednesday. These winds will have speeds around 10 mph with gusts of 25-30 mph.
Even though skies will be mostly sunny from start to finish, temperatures on Wednesday will be even cooler than they were yesterday, with highs struggling into the low 50s. Some higher elevations will likely get stuck in the upper 40s.
This will lead to a very cold night Wednesday night. Widespread frost and freeze conditions are likely as temperatures fall into the low 30s with some pockets of upper 20s.
Sunshine will persist on Thursday with light and variable winds. Without the cool northerly flow, temperatures will begin to rebound. Highs on Thursday should push back into the low 60s, and Thursday night should stick to the 40s.
By Friday, some thin clouds will start to work into the area along with more warm air. Highs should break back into the 70s.
Clouds will increase further on Saturday, holding temperatures to the low 70s again. A weather system will move through Saturday night with a better chance for rain. A few of those showers may linger into early Sunday.
Temperatures will take a small hit behind this system early next week before launching into a steady warming trend. Most of next week should have highs at least in the 70s. There may be some chances for rain, but at this point, those chances do not look overly high.
