Mid-Week Weather
Low pressure remains to our north over eastern Canada, though it will start to drift east and dissipate later today.
For the most part, today will be similar to Monday and Tuesday across the Finger Lakes.
Clouds are plentiful throughout the region this morning and will persist for most of the day. There will be some glimpses of the sun here and there, especially in southern areas and especially later in the day.
There will also be a few showers, mainly off Lake Erie, spreading across the northern half of the region. A stray shower or two will be possible anywhere at any time, though. The showers will remain brief and light.
Southwest winds will blow at 10 mph, similar to the last two days. The wind will die off around sunset.
Temperatures will be a touch warmer than the last few days and will not be too far below the daily average high. Most areas will be in the upper 50s to near 60 degrees. Low 60s are likely in the valleys from Corning to Binghamton, and in a few areas along or north of I-90. Most higher elevations should at least reach the mid 50s.
It will remain cloudy tonight with a few more stray showers. Again, these will be most likely in the north.
Overnight lows will mostly be in the mid 40s across the north, with low 40s and pockets of upper 30s across the south.
Thursday will have mixed skies and our best shot this week for some decent sunshine. However, a small boundary on the backside of the dissipating low pressure will also drop through, which may increase clouds for a time and possibly trigger a few more stray showers. Most areas should stay dry on Thursday.
Winds will be out of the south early but will then turn to the northwest behind the boundary. Nonetheless, temperatures should reach their high point of the week, with most areas a degree or two on either side of 60 degrees.
Clear to partly cloudy skies Thursday night will subsequently send overnight temperature to the low point of the week with low 40s near the lakes and north of I-90 and mid and upper 30s elsewhere. Patchy frost is a distinct possibility in the colder areas.

Stormy Weekend
Our next weather maker will take shape over the middle of the nation today and tomorrow and will be approaching the Great Lakes by late Friday.
Clouds will increase well ahead of this system as a frontal boundary begins to take shape across the Ohio River Valley and Mid-Atlantic in response to the approaching low.
There may be some filtered sun on Friday, but it will most likely end up another rather cloudy day. No precipitation is expected, however.
North winds will be in place behind Thursday’s boundary and to the north of the developing frontal boundary. Combined with the chilly start to the day and increasing clouds, Friday should end up several degrees cooler than Thursday.
This means highs in the mid and upper 50s for most areas, though a few of the warmest pockets, such as Dansville, Elmira, and Owego, may still hit 60 degrees.
Rain will start to move into the area by Saturday morning, possibly starting before dawn. While still several days out, the chances for periods of steady rain on Saturday look high, and some of it may come down at a moderate to hard clip at times.
The steady rain should gradually turn more showery later Saturday and Saturday night. Sunday and Monday both look to have at least some scattered showers in the area, if not more widespread activity.
Rain amounts over the weekend could easily exceed an inch, though again, there is still time for that amount to be adjusted up or down.
The rain and thick clouds will send temperatures back to the low and mid 50s for Saturday, Sunday, and Monday. Like this week, as we head toward the middle of next week, the showers should become less frequent and temperatures will slowly push upward.
