Weekend Weather Forecast
A weak frontal boundary will sit over the Finger Lakes region this weekend between a pair of high pressure systems.
For Friday, this boundary is still off to the west and high pressure to the south will retain a good deal of control.
Between the high and the front, a southerly flow of warmer air will persist. South and southwest winds will increase today, reaching speeds slightly over 10 mph with a few gusts approaching 30 mph.
Skies will be mixed throughout the day, with some cloudy periods and some sunnier ones. As a whole, the mid to late morning hours will be the sunniest, while the late afternoon will be the cloudiest.
The southerly flow and sunshine will team up to warm temperatures this afternoon. All the region should break into the 50s, and a few upper 50s will be possible near Rochester and through the Genesee Valley. Most areas will be in the mid 50s.
Clouds will increase and thicken tonight with some rain showers entering the picture as the front slides in during the predawn hours. Scattered showers will continue throughout Saturday, but especially during the morning hours.
The rain on Saturday should be light but could be steady for a few hours.
Winds on Saturday will be light from the southwest, helping hold temperatures up. Morning lows will be in the low and mid 40s with afternoon highs in the low and mid 50s.
The front will linger Saturday night, probably with an uptick in showers at some point, which may continue into early Sunday morning.
Eventually on Sunday, the front should sink further southeast, allowing our winds to turn to the northwest and slightly cooler air to move in. Highs Sunday afternoon will be around 50 degrees.
Next Week’s Weather
Skies should eventually clear out Sunday night, allowing Monday to get off to a sunny but cool start. Morning lows in the mid 30s with colder pockets seem likely.
Most of Monday will be quiet. Sunshine will gradually be replaced by clouds, and by evening, rain will move into the area. High temperatures will return to the mid 50s.
Rain will fall Monday night with showers lingering into Tuesday. The front responsible for these showers may not make it too far south before stalling out. Uncertainty with the position of the front decreases the forecast confidence of the middle of the week.
At this time, it looks as though Tuesday may still see temperatures well into the 50s, but cooler air is more likely by Wednesday.
As long as the front stays far enough south on Wednesday, it should be a dry, albeit cloudy, day.
Thursday, an area of low pressure riding along the front will pass through. This precipitation should be rain, but if it moves through during the night, it may get more complicated.
Temperatures should stick to the 40s for a few days behind this system as well. Some lake effect precipitation may be possible next weekend, but it is too early to count on for sure.
