Weekend Weather Forecast
Cool air will remain in place through the weekend with varying amounts of snow and wind.
To start off Friday morning, a well-organized lake effect snow band is extending from Wayne county southeast through central Cayuga county and into Cortland county. Outside of this band, conditions are mixed with clouds, stray flurries, and some sunshine.
This lake effect band should slowly wind down this morning, dissipating to stray flurries by the afternoon. The rest of the region will continue to see a mix of sun and clouds, with a broad increase in cloud cover late in the day and this evening.
Strong winds will also gradually decrease over the course of the day. Winds will remain blustery this morning but should be notably less this afternoon.
High temperatures today will generally be in the low 30s with upper 20s in higher elevations.
Low pressure will track across the Mid-Atlantic overnight and may spread a little light snow in the southern half of the region between midnight and dawn. Lake effect flurries and squalls will also redevelop after midnight for the northern half of the region.
Saturday will see a widespread spray of short-lived flurries and squalls. These will especially be prevalent from the mid morning through the early afternoon. Given individual cells’ short duration, accumulations will be low, but expect rapidly changing travel conditions.
Temperatures on Saturday will start in the low 20s and top out in the upper 20s. Winds will be from the northwest with speeds of 10-15 mph and a few gusts over 30 mph.
The wind will turn to the southwest Saturday night as another low pressure moves east across southern Canada. This will remove the lake snows from our area, except perhaps in the far northwestern reaches towards Batavia and Rochester.
Sunday will mostly be dry, but rather cloudy. The southwest winds will increase to 15-20 mph with gusts of 35-45 mph. The strongest gusts will be west of Seneca Lake, and especially in the same Batavia to Rochester belt.
Temperatures Sunday will start in the mid and upper 10s with highs in the low and mid 30s.

Next Week’s Weather
The weather will turn quiet for the first half of next week as high pressure dominates the eastern United States.
Some limited lake effect snow may develop Sunday night and linger into very early Monday. However, most of Monday should be dry with an increasing amount of sunshine.
Monday will still be on the cool side with lows in the low 20s and highs in the low 30s. Monday night should drop to the upper 10s and low 20s thanks to clear skies.
Northwest winds on Monday will switch around to the south and southeast by Tuesday as the high pressure moves to a position along the New England coast.
This will result in a warm afternoon Tuesday despite the cool start to the day. Look for highs in the low and mid 40s with sunny skies throughout the day.
Wednesday will also be sunny and mild, but some clouds will increase late in the day. A few rain showers may even arrive by the evening and overnight hours. Morning lows will be in the upper 20s and afternoon highs will be in the mid 40s.
Thursday will start off with temperatures well into the 30s and highs will again reach the mid 40s. A cold front will move though, however. Rain showers will be likely and may turn to some flurries by Thursday night.
Generally cooler, more active weather is expected late next week and through the weekend. Warmer air will be quick to move back in and most of the following week has a shot at being in the 40s.
