Late Week Weather Forecast
Low pressure over the Ohio River Valley this morning will track north through the Upper Great Lakes and into Canada over the next couple of days.
With this path, the low will bring us several on and off periods of rain as well as a notable increase in wind speed.
One such batch of rain is lifting north through the region early this morning, associated with the low pressure’s warm front.
This rain should clear the area to the north by the mid-morning hours. Most of the rest of the daytime will be dry, though a stray shower here or there cannot be totally ruled out.
Skies will remain mostly cloudy today. There may be some thinning of the sky at times and brief glimpses of the sun, but they will be the exception, not the rule.
Southeast winds will start to increase this afternoon, building to speeds near 15 mph and gusts over 30 mph.
It will be another warm day with highs mostly in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees. Higher elevations will stick to the mid 60s.
Rain will start to move back into the area either very late this afternoon or very early in the evening, call it roughly 6-8 PM. Like this rain this morning, this rain will move from south to north.
The rain will probably be less widespread than this morning’s rain, but on and off showers will continue to be possible through the night. A few downpours and rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out.
Winds will likely increase further with gusts in the 40-45 mph range, still from the southeast. The atmospheric setup is such that there could be some stronger gusts in any thundery downpours.
A final band of rain will move from southwest to northeast through the region early Friday morning along a cold front. This will bring the best chance for some thunderstorms, mainly for areas east of Seneca Lake.
Temperatures will stay in the 50s overnight and then will mostly stay at or under 60 degrees on Friday. The warmest air will be found in the northeastern Finger Lakes, around Syracuse, where the cooler air will take longest to reach.
Winds will turn to the southwest behind the cold front during the morning. Wind speeds will still be blustery, but probably not quite as strong as this afternoon.
Like today, rain will end early on, leaving most of the daytime hours dry. Additional rain is likely by the evening.
Weekend Weather Forecast and Next Week’s Weather
Widespread steady precipitation will develop Friday night and continue to slowly pivot through the region Saturday morning. Most of this will fall as rain, but some wet snow may mix in at times, particularly over higher elevations.
The rain should gradually end during the afternoon hours from west to east.
Temperatures Saturday morning will start in the mid 30s with highs ranging through the 40s.
Winds will turn to the northwest and increase again. Gusts over 40 mph will become likely throughout the day, but will drop as evening sets in.
Sunday will see a jump in temperature as winds turn back to the south ahead of a new, small low pressure system. After starting the day in the upper 30s, highs should reach the upper 50s.
This low will bring some afternoon showers to the area. There is a chance for some thunderstorms as well, though these will be more likely to our south across Pennsylvania.
The weather may dry out for Monday and Tuesday, though a stray shower either day cannot be totally ruled out. Temperatures will remain in the upper 50s on Monday, then will jump to the upper 60s on Tuesday.
Unsettled weather will return for the latter half of next week, including the chance for some thunderstorms on Wednesday with a warm air mass in place.
Temperatures should remain elevated until the weekend when cooler air will start to build back in. High temperatures the following week look to be close to average in the 50s.
