Mid Week Weather
Low pressure over the Mid-Atlantic region is attempting to send rain north into the Finger Lakes, but dry air from a Canadian high pressure is limiting its progress.
So far overnight and early this morning, rain showers have been contained mainly to the southeastern quadrant of the Finger Lakes, with steadier rain staying to the south and east of the region.
Through the morning, the showers will probably not move a whole lot. This will leave much of the region with cloudy, but dry conditions.
New showers will start to develop during the midday and early afternoon, focusing on the same areas that are currently dry. Much of the rain will be light and scattered, and showers should diminish later in the afternoon. A few areas may slip through the day without seeing additional rain.
Temperatures will be a bit cooler than yesterday with highs mainly in the mid and upper 60s. A few areas may flirt with 70 degrees. Winds will be light from the southeast this morning, then nearly calm and variable this afternoon.
A few showers may linger into the evening hours before mainly dissipating overnight. In fact, some clear patches may develop, which will lead into a partly cloudy start to Thursday.
Sun and clouds will mix throughout the day on Thursday. Fair weather clouds will bubble up as the daytime heating cycle kicks in, and a few of these may grow enough to support an isolated, brief shower here or there.
As the daytime heating cycle winds down in the late afternoon, any showers and most of the clouds will dissipate.
A light northeast wind will blow on Thursday, but the sunshine will give temperatures a boost over today, regardless. Highs will be between 70-75 degrees.
Clouds will increase and winds will turn to the southeast Thursday night, keeping nighttime temperatures in the mid 50s.
Weekend Weather, Next Week Preview
Friday will be a dry day, but how much sun we see is questionable.
Clouds will be on the increase ahead of a weak system that will move through the area on Saturday. There may be some filtered sunshine at times, especially early on, but expect more clouds.
Southeast winds will persist, increasing to 5-10 mph. Temperatures will add a couple more degrees with highs around the mid 70s. Overnight lows will be in the upper 50s.
The biggest question surrounding the weather this weekend will be how much rain falls on Saturday. At this point, the models are starting to back away from the rain somewhat. There will probably still be at least a few showers around on Saturday, but a washout of a day is looking unlikely.
Temperatures will likely take a step back with highs closer to 70 degrees. Similar temperatures are expected on Sunday, though the chances for rain will have passed and some sun should poke out between clouds.
Monday looks like another dry day with a mix of sun and clouds. Temperatures will continue to be about where they have been, with lows in the mid 50s and highs in the low 70s.
More active weather will be possible Tuesday and Wednesday next week, coinciding with an increase in temperature and humidity. This will give us a chance for some thunderstorms, but of course, it is far too early for any details.
Temperatures should drop again later next week behind the unsettled weather with highs in the 60s favored. For nighttime temperatures, 50s will continue to be most likely.
