Tuesday-Wednesday Rain Chances
A weak area of low pressure will meander across the region over the next two days, bringing some showers and thunderstorms to the area.
As of early Tuesday morning, this low was situated over southeastern Michigan and will move eastward over Ontario, Canada, this afternoon.
Ahead of this low, skies are mixed across the Finger Lakes, with some areas seeing some morning sunshine, while others see clouds.
The overall trend should be for clouds to increase throughout the day, but for rain to remain outside of the region this morning. During the afternoon, several rounds of scattered showers and a few thunderstorms will move through.
Some of these may arrive during the early afternoon, but the best chance for rain will be during the late afternoon and into the evening. However, there remains some doubt as to how widespread these become, and most areas may end up dry the vast majority of the day.
Any thunderstorms that develop may produce heavy downpours. While some gusty winds are not out of the question, severe weather is generally not expected.
With the hit-or-miss nature of these showers and downpours, rainfall amounts will be extremely variable, ranging from nothing at all to locally over an inch and possibly upwards of two or more inches.
A steady south wind will blow with speeds of 5-10 mph, helping temperatures into the mid and upper 80s despite the clouds. A few of the typically warmer urban and valley locations may flirt with 90 degrees.
It will be humid with dewpoints well into the 60s to near 70 degrees, especially late today and into the evening.
Scattered showers and a few storms will be possible this evening, but should gradually wind down overnight. South winds will lock in the humid air and lows will only make it into the mid and upper 60s to near 70 degrees.
Scattered showers and a few storms will continue into Wednesday, focusing on the late morning and early afternoon hours. Locally heavy downpours will again be possible.
The rain should taper off later in the afternoon as humidity decreases and winds turn toward the northwest. Afternoon highs will be in the mid 80s with some low 80s in the highest elevations.
Staying Warm and Muggy
The low pressure system will dissipate as it moves east into New England, allowing a small area of high pressure to take over.
Thursday should be dry thanks to this high pressure with light and variable winds.
Any decrease in humidity late Wednesday will be erased, however, with dewpoints in the upper 60s to near 70 degrees. This will go along with temperatures peaking in the mid and upper 80s to near 90 degrees once again.
Friday is also looking dry but is less certain. A stray shower cannot be totally ruled out, and the chances of rain could increase or decrease further as we get closer.
Temperatures will likely depend on the presence or absence of rain, but assuming it stays dry, it should be just as hot and muggy as Thursday.
Rain chances will creep up on Saturday, but most areas should still be dry most of the day. Temperatures may take a step back thanks to increased clouds, but it will remain very humid with dewpoints near or above 70 degrees.
Sunday will have the best chance of rain during the weekend with showers and storms likely. A few lingering showers will be possible Monday, followed by a band of showers and storms along a cold front Wednesday.
Humidity levels should drop by Monday with dewpoints mostly in the 50s and lower half of the 60s next week. Temperatures will remain in the 80s.
