Weekend Weather Forecast
High pressure will pass through the area this weekend, keeping the weather sunny and allowing temperatures to rise.
The high will build in overhead on Friday, with light to calm winds and a mix of sun and fair weather clouds. There should be less cloud cover than yesterday, and no rain is expected.
Temperatures will be warmer, but not too warm, with highs primarily in the mid 70s. A few urban areas will be slightly warmer, and hilltops will be slightly cooler, but everywhere should get above 70 degrees.
Fair weather clouds will dissipate late in the day, but some thin cirrus wisps will move in for the evening and overnight. These will not completely cover the sky, and there may be some breaks of mostly clear skies.
Nighttime temperatures will range through the 50s, with upper 50s along the lake shores, mid 50s for most areas, and pockets of low 50s across the western Southern Tier and in and around Cortland County.
Saturday will have plenty of sunshine. A few fair weather clouds may bubble up, but most of the clouds will be thin, cirrus clouds with little impact on the available sunshine.
A light southwest wind will develop as the high slides to our southeast. Most lower elevations will be at or above 80 degrees as a result, while higher elevations will be in the upper 70s.
Clear skies are expected Saturday night, though a passing thin cloud will remain possible. Overnight lows will range from 55 to 60 degrees.
Sunday will see a slight increase in clouds again and a very small chance for a brief spit of rain. For the very few areas that see rain, it may not even be enough to wet the pavement and should only last a few minutes.
Light south winds will turn into light northwest winds on Sunday with speeds at or under 5 mph. Temperatures will mainly be between 80-85 degrees.
Next Week’s Weather
Monday will follow Sunday’s style with sun and clouds and just the smallest chances for a brief shower.
Temperatures will be a degree or two cooler in the afternoon, with a few upper 70s in higher elevations and maximum temperatures in the region coming up just short of 85 degrees. Most areas will be near or just above 80 degrees.
Tuesday will continue the stretch of sunny and dry weather. Not even a stray shower is expected at this time.
Temperatures will gain back the degree or two lost from Sunday to Monday, with highs again in the 80-85 degree range.
The best chance for rain over the next week will come later Wednesday, but even that is a highly uncertain and not very impressive chance for rain.
Temperatures will at least be in the low and mid 80s on Wednesday but will retreat to the mid 70s on Thursday.
Another uncertain chance for rain will unfold by next weekend, though the chances look a little better than during the middle of the week.
Temperatures may bounce back to around 80 degrees for the final days of August over the Labor Day Weekend, but should then back off down into the 70s for early September.
