Cold Front
Scattered showers dot the radar across the Finger Lakes this morning as a slow moving cold front meanders through the region.
Clouds will stick around most of the day and showers will be on and off through the morning and into the early afternoon.
Even during the later afternoon, a few stray spits of rain or drizzle cannot be totally ruled out.
Winds will turn to the northwest with the frontal passage but will remain light. Afternoon highs will mainly be in the low and mid 60s with some upper 50s in higher elevations.
The best chance for a little sun at day’s end will be in the western Finger Lakes, but even there, that may be a tall order to achieve.
Skies will clear out this evening, though. Temperatures will drop, leading to areas of fog. Locally dense fog will persist into Thursday morning. Morning lows will mainly be in the upper half of the 40s, though some cooler pockets are possible in Steuben and Allegany County.
Once the fog burns off early Thursday, skies will be sunny with some thin clouds passing through during the afternoon. These clouds may filter the sun a little but should not block it out.
Winds will be from the south with speeds around 5 mph, helping highs bounce back to around 70 degrees.
Weekend Weather, Chilly Next Week
Sunshine and mild temperatures will continue into Friday. Morning lows will start out around 50 degrees and afternoon highs will be into the mid 70s.
Clouds will mix in with the sunshine during the day, and a few stray showers will be possible Friday night. These will be front another cold front.
Saturday is expected to be mostly sunny as the front quickly moves out before sunrise. Morning lows will again be near 50, but afternoon highs will manage just the mid 60s. North and northwest winds will blow at speeds slightly over 5 mph.
The weather becomes less certain by Sunday, though there is a decent chance that rain holds off at least until the evening hours.
Regardless of when rain arrives, south winds at 10 mph should push highs right back toward 70 degrees. If the rain holds off completely, it could be warmer. This will be despite a cool start well into the 40s.
Some rain showers from the cold front may linger into Monday, mainly during the morning hours. A steady west-northwest wind will bring in cooler air. Afternoon highs will struggle to get beyond 60 degrees.
Starting Tuesday, several days next week may see highs only in the 50s. Lake effect rain showers will be possible. It is unclear at this time if it will be cold enough for frost, though areas further from Lake Ontario will have a greater chance for clear nighttime skies and cold temperatures.
