Incoming Cold Front
A cold front will move through the Finger Lakes overnight tonight.
But out ahead of the front, it will be another warm, dry day, resulting in just about the best conditions one could hope for during Trick-or-Treating and other Halloween festivities.
Sunny skies this morning will gradually mix with increasing clouds, especially this afternoon. However, no rain will fall during the daytime hours, or even during the evening.
Temperatures will take advantage of a warm start and easily reach the mid 70s this afternoon. There will be warmer pockets reaching the upper 70s and a few places may even be able to hit 80 degrees.
Steady southwest winds at speeds up to 10 mph will ensure the warmth stays locked in. These wind will increase a bit more this evening with speeds just over 10 mph and gusts around 25 mph.
Temperatures will remain very warm early this evening, ranging from 65-70 degrees for most areas.
The first showers should begin to arrive around or after midnight. These will be scattered and sporadic. Most areas will see little rainfall and some areas will be missed altogether.
Winds will turn to the west as the front passes and temperatures will begin to fall. Coming from such a warm start, by Friday morning, most areas will still be in the upper 50s.
However, temperatures will only drop during the day, ending up in the low and mid 50s Friday afternoon.
West winds will be blustery, with gusts of 25-35 mph. The strongest gusts will be north of I-90 and west of Canandaigua Lake.
Stray showers will dot the region throughout Friday. None of the rain will be heavy and some areas may still mostly stay dry.
Weather This Weekend, Next Week
Temperatures will fall faster Friday night, reaching a low in the mid and upper 30s. Spits of rain will continue, especially southeast of Lake Ontario, as winds turn to the northwest.
Saturday morning will have a few lingering rain showers before dry air begins to work in. Morning cloudiness should give way to afternoon sunshine.
Winds on Saturday will be much lighter with top gusts near or under 20 mph. By the evening, winds will be mostly calm.
Temperatures on Saturday will mostly stick to the upper 40s, though the typically warmer areas will likely claw their way to or just above 50 degrees.
Clear skies, light winds, and dry air will lead to ideal cooling conditions Saturday evening. A light south wind will develop after midnight, likely saving a couple degrees off the morning low.
Still, most areas will be at or below freezing Sunday morning. Immediate lake shores should stay just above freezing. Lows in the upper 20s will be widespread throughout the Southern Tier with mid 20s in and around Cortland County.
Despite the cold start, highs Sunday afternoon will jump up to the mid 50s. Morning sun will gradually give way to afternoon clouds.
These clouds will be ahead of another warm front which will move through on Monday with occasional showers. Morning lows will be warmer, around 40 degrees, but afternoon highs will stick near the mid 50s.
Warm air will build in Monday night and Tuesday, however. Tuesday should start out around 50 degrees with highs around 70.
A cold front is expected on Wednesday, but not until after a warm morning in the mid 50s and mild afternoon in the mid 60s.
Temperatures should dip back into the 50s behind the front for the latter part of next week and next weekend. There may be some additional chances for rain as well.
