Temperatures Up
Clouds and a steady breeze have temperatures up this morning, but the real surge of warm air is yet to come.
A warm front will slowly progress through the region today and tonight, opening the area up to another two-day stretch of very warm weather.
For today, though, temperatures will mainly stick to the 50s. The one exception will be around Rochester and into the Genesee Valley, where some low 60s may show up.
Skies will remain rather cloudy today, though a few glimpses of sunshine would not be surprising, especially this morning.
During the mid afternoon, a small area of showers may pass through. Not all areas will see rain, and those that do will only see minimal amounts.
Breezy winds will persist, coming in from the south at 10-15 mph. A few gusts to 30 mph will be possible.
The wind will remain steady throughout the overnight. Clouds will hang around, too. Warm air will start to really push in, causing temperatures to rise a few degrees overnight after the initial evening drop.
Tuesday morning’s temperatures at sunrise will range from the mid 50s across most of the northern half of the region to the upper 40s in the normally cooler pockets of the Southern Tier and into Cortland County.
Sunshine should increase on Tuesday while southerly winds will persist at around 10 mph. Temperatures will respond by jumping into the low and mid 70s.
Winds will increase slightly Tuesday night with clouds building in after midnight. Temperatures will only drop to around 60 degrees overnight.
Temperatures Reset
A cold front will move through on Wednesday. Temperatures will still top out around 70 degrees before the cooler air starts to seep in.
It will take most of the day for winds to turn from the south, southwest, west, and eventually northwest. Winds will remain similarly breezy until the late, final turn to the northwest.
Scattered showers will be the best the front can do with minimal precipitation amounts once again. Some areas will probably be missed by the rain altogether.
High pressure will then build in with seasonable temperatures and no more chances for rain until late in the weekend.
Thursday will have early clouds and perhaps a stray spit of rain, but sunshine will increase during the afternoon. Morning lows will still be mild in the mid 40s, with afternoon highs topping out around the mid 50s.
Friday will start cooler after a night of clear skies, but it still will not be as cold as it has been recently with lows in the upper 30s. Highs will reach the upper 50s with a mix of sun and clouds.
A subtle cold front will move through on Friday, setting up a sunny but cooler Saturday. Morning lows will be well into the 30s and afternoon highs will only reach the low 50s.
Temperatures will get a small boost on Sunday ahead of the next weather maker. Lows will be in the mid 30s and highs in the mid 50s. Some late day rain showers will be possible, but it is too far out to be certain of the timing.
The first part of next week has a shot at seeing some temperatures in the 60s before cooler weather becomes more favorable. Precipitation chances next week will center on Sunday Night and early Monday and late in the week.
