Weekend Weather Forecast

A strong high pressure system will keep the weather quieter through the weekend.

Friday will have a mix of sun and some clouds around the region.

Lake effect off Lake Erie has greatly dissipated and is mostly just some lingering clouds across the Southern Tier this morning. To the north, the Lake Ontario band is strong and mature, but just to our north across Oswego county.

Over the course of today, the Lake Erie clouds should further dissipate and the Lake Ontario band should remain to our north, leaving sunshine and quiet weather across the Finger Lakes.

The strong winds of yesterday are no more as well, though wind speeds will still be around 10 mph through the early afternoon. These will be west and southwest winds. Wind speeds should drop further during the second half of the afternoon.

Temperatures will be a touch cooler than yesterday, though without the wind, it will probably feel a bit less frigid. Highs will range throughout the 20s.

Skies will be clear tonight with light to calm winds. Temperatures will drop well into the 10s and, for the coldest areas, into the single digits.

Saturday will be sunny and quiet across the region. The one exception may be a few early flurries across the northern Finger Lakes as the Lake Ontario snow band, in a much weaker state, rapidly pivots from east to west. No snow accumulation will result.

Winds will continue to be calm early on and will gradually turn into an east or southeast whisper during the afternoon.

Temperatures will warm a little with highs averaging out around 30 degrees.

Clouds will build in Saturday evening and persist into Sunday. Temperatures will drop to the mid 20s overnight.

Sunday will be cloudy, with a few flurries or perhaps rain showers arriving late in the afternoon. Snow showers will persist Sunday night, but should be out of the area by Monday morning. Highs Sunday will be in the mid 30s.

Next Week’s Weather

After Sunday night’s little weather system passes through, Monday will be another cloudy day.

However, temperatures will take a jump, rising into the mid 30s overnight and into the mid 40s Monday afternoon.

Another nighttime weather system will move through Monday night with periods of rain. Temperatures will again rise from an initial dip in the evening and should be in the 40s most of the night.

Some of the rain may linger into early Tuesday, but much of the day actually is looking dry. Temperatures will reach their high point for the week in the upper 40s.

Cooler air will move in with little fanfare Tuesday night into Wednesday. Overnight lows will be around 30 degrees and daytime highs in the upper 30s.

A few flurries will be possible Wednesday night with mostly cloudy skies Thursday. Highs will continue to drop with mid 30s expected.

A strong low may pass through the region toward Friday or Saturday next week with another shot of cooler weather in its wake. Whatever snow chances this system brings, and whatever lake effect may develop behind it, will likely be the determining factor in whether we see a White Christmas this year.

Although you said that Friday will have a mix of sun and some clouds, it’s snowing in Newfield on the hills.

Thanks for the report. Not showing on radar, but it is likely a little bit of that remaining Lake Erie band. It shouldn’t last too long.
