Weekend Weather Forecast

A couple of small weather systems will move through the region this weekend with some snow showers.

A cold front is sliding through early Friday morning. Temperatures will not drop much behind the front, but winds will turn northwesterly for the daytime hours today.

That will bring some lake effect flurries and a few squalls off Lake Ontario south into our area. The snow will be on and off and mainly over the northern half of the region.

A few of the squalls may make for some briefly tricky travel, but all in all, the impacts from the snow today should be minimal. Accumulations will be limited to an inch or less for most areas.

Outside of the snow showers, some sun will be possible, especially early this morning.

Afternoon highs will be in the low and mid 20s. Wind speeds will remain near or under 10 mph.

The wind will turn back to the southwest tonight, removing any lingering lake effect from the area. Skies will partially clear, especially after midnight, allowing temperatures to drop.

Most areas should start Saturday in the single digits, though a few of the typically warmer locations will stay near or above 10 degrees.

Saturday will be rather cloudy, though a little sun will be possible early in the day and maybe again toward sunset. A few snow showers will also be possible with little to no accumulation.

Afternoon highs will be in the mid 20s, but with south winds persisting into the night, overnight lows will only drop a couple of degrees.

The next system will pass through on Sunday with scattered snow showers. Accumulations should again be limited to an inch or so, with many areas seeing less.

Winds will pick up during the late morning and early afternoon as they turn to the west. A few gusts may go as high as 40 mph before winds weaken later in the afternoon. Midday highs will be around 30 degrees before slipping back into the 20s during the afternoon.

Next Week’s Weather

Winds will go right back to the southwest Sunday night, leading to some clearing skies. Nighttime temperatures will drop back into the 10s.

Monday will be dry with quite a bit of sunshine and some increasing late clouds. Afternoon highs will reach the low 30s for most areas.

Southwest winds will become blustery, with speeds increasing to 15-20 mph late in the day and into the nighttime. Gusts will be 30-40 mph for most areas, but 40-50 mph in the Genesee Valley and Rochester areas.

Snow showers will move in overnight and continue into Tuesday. Some minor accumulations will be possible, but nothing too significant.

Winds will turn to the northwest and gradually weaken. Some limited lake effect will keep snow showers in the area through the night.

Tuesday will start out in the mid 20s and rise to the low 30s. Tuesday night, however, will be colder with lows in the mid 10s.

Snow showers are likely Wednesday, again with some light accumulations. Temperatures will top out in the mid 20s.

A few lingering snow showers will be possible on Thursday. Cold air will settle back in with highs probably sticking to the 10s. Winds will be a bit blustery as well, making it feel even colder.

Temperatures will stay a bit cool on Friday but may return to the 30s by next weekend. There may even be some rain as a weather system passes through, but it is too early to tell for sure what type of precipitation may fall.
