Mid-Week Weather Forecast

Low pressure located northeast of Maine continues to influence our weather today, but high pressure will soon build in.

A spray of snow showers on northwest winds is present across the Finger Lakes this morning, producing a light coating of snow in some areas.

The snow will continue this morning but will gradually become less widespread. Most areas will see snow end during the afternoon, but a few flurries over the higher elevations south of Syracuse may linger into the early evening hours.

Some higher elevations may see some additional light accumulations, while lower elevations may lose what fell overnight.

Even as the snow ends, skies will remain mostly cloudy until they start to break up this evening.

High temperatures will range from the mid 30s in some higher elevations to around 40 degrees in lower elevations. Parts of the Southern Tier, where snow will be harder to come by, may get several degrees above 40 degrees.

Northwest winds will remain strong with speeds near or over 20 mph and gusts of 35-45 mph. Wind speeds will drop this evening.

High pressure will take over during the nighttime hours and skies should dawn mostly to completely sunny tomorrow morning. Temperatures early in the morning will range from the mid 20s in the western Southern Tier to the low 30s along and north of I-90.

Skies will remain mostly sunny throughout the day Thursday. Only a few stray, thin clouds are expected here and there.

Winds will remain out of the northwest but will be lighter than today. Also, upstream winds will be more westerly or southwesterly, cutting off the supply of cold air.

Temperatures will rebound for a high in the low and mid 50s as a result, though some of the higher elevations south of Syracuse may stick in the upper 40s.

Staying Mild

By Friday, winds will turn to the south, bringing warmer air into the region. Wind speeds will be increasing again with a few gusts over 30 mph.

After morning lows in the 30s, afternoon highs will jump to the mid 60s.

Scattered showers will pass through the area during the afternoon. A couple rumbles of thunder cannot be ruled out.

Likewise, Saturday will have scattered showers and perhaps a thunderstorm. It will be a warm day with lows in the 50s and highs at least in the upper 60s.

Southwest winds early Saturday will eventually turn to the west before ending up from the northwest by the evening.

Slightly cooler air will move in for Sunday with lows in the low 40s and highs in the mid 50s. However, it should be a dry day with sun mixing with clouds. Winds will be from the north but with top gusts only around 20 mph.

Winds will turn back to the south Sunday night, pushing highs Monday back to around 60 degrees. Some scattered showers will be possible.

Tuesday currently looks sunny and dry, with temperatures staying around 60 degrees.

Temperatures should climb a few degrees next Wednesday and Thursday before dipping back to around 60 degrees late next week. A few showers will be possible, especially on Thursday.

People kept looking at me oddly when I said that you said there would be snow today. We got 2.5 inches up here on Tupper Rd.
