Weekend Weather Forecast
An area of low pressure will move into the Ohio Valley this weekend and stall out thanks to higher pressure to its north and east.
This will keep our weather unsettled into next week with daily chances for rain.
Before that low sets up residence, a different low is slowly departing the area today.
Spits of rain will be possible at any time today but will generally remain isolated and brief.
Any rain this morning will be very sporadic and light with most areas remaining dry. During the midday and afternoon, as temperatures push into the 70s again, more showers will start to pop up.
There is still some uncertainty in how many showers develop and whether any of them can organize into small clusters of thunderstorms.
At least a few rumbles of thunder across the region are likely, and some briefly stronger storms could produce some gusty winds or small hail. This will be most likely late in the afternoon to around sunset.
There will be areas that get through the entire day dry, and there will be other areas that may see rain a couple of time.
Winds will be from the southwest with speeds slightly over 10 mph. After peaking in the low and mid 70s this afternoon, nighttime temperatures will slowly drip into the 50s with some upper 40s by sunrise. Northern and western areas will be coolest, while parts of the Southern Tier hang onto the 50s overnight.
An area of more widespread rain will likely move toward the Finger Lakes during the predawn hours, persisting through much of the morning. Additional rain is likely for the afternoon but should become more scattered.
Widespread amounts around a half-inch are likely with localized areas seeing around an inch.
Saturday will be cooler with highs ranging through the 50s.
The nature of the rain on Sunday remains uncertain. While there could be another round of widespread, steadier rain, the most likely scenario will be for the rain to be more scattered, especially in the afternoon.
Temperatures on Sunday will start in the 40s with highs in the upper 50s to perhaps near 60 degrees in a few warmer pockets.

Weather Next Week
High pressure will slide from Canada to the Atlantic Ocean early next week. This shift will cut off the cooler air and allow temperatures to jump about 10 degrees.
With highs in the upper 60s, there will be enough fuel to bring scattered thunderstorms back into the forecast.
Like the storms yesterday and today, severe weather is generally not expected outside of some briefly feisty cells. Tuesday has more of a chance for this than Monday with better support from the winds aloft.
As a whole, precipitation looks more sporadic and more focused on the afternoon hours than the weekend.
The soggy pattern will dissipate on Wednesday with showers gradually diminishing. As the low passes by, winds will turn more northerly, knocking a few degrees off the high temperature.
Thursday will most likely be dry with some sun mixing in with clouds. Highs will remain on the lower side, topping out in the low 60s.
The weather pattern looks much less active as we head toward next weekend and the following week. Temperatures should start a slow climb as well with more 70s gradually becoming possible.
