Weekend Weather Forecast
The weather will remain relatively quiet this weekend with only a few passing snow showers here and there.
High pressure is in firm control of the weather for Friday. Clear skies and fresh snow led to a cold overnight, with a few pockets slipping below zero.
Sunshine is abundant this morning and will remain plentiful for much of the day. Gradually, some thin clouds will work in later, but they should not block out the sun.
A light southerly wind will blow today with speeds of 5-10 mph. Even with the sun and south winds, highs will only make it to the mid 20s for most areas.
Clouds will increase and thicken tonight, but with a few gaps here and there remaining possible even into Saturday.
Low pressure will pass well to the north on Saturday. As warm air gets pulled northward, a few snow showers will be possible during the midday and early afternoon, especially across the northern half of the area.
Temperatures will start out near or slightly under 20 degrees, then rise to a high in the mid 30s with the usual warmer and cooler pockets.
A few more snow showers will be possible in the late afternoon and evening, this time especially in the western and northern areas. Some limited lake effect snow showers will also be possible overnight right along the shore of Lake Ontario.
Temperatures will stay in the mid 20s Saturday night. Highs on Sunday will reach the low 30s.
A separate, weak system will bring a bit broader coverage of snow showers on Sunday with little to no accumulation. These will especially be possible in the afternoon but will start to arrive during the later morning hours.
Winds on Sunday will be variable. After turning to the northwest Saturday night, they will swing around to the south again Sunday morning. Southwest winds in the afternoon will then turn to the west during the early evening and northwest overnight.
Most of these winds will be light, but the wind will increase to near 15 mph Sunday night. With nighttime temperatures dropping well into the 10s, wind chills may dip below zero by Monday morning.

Weather Next Week
No major weather systems are expected next week, though there will still be some unsettled weather to contend with.
The week will start out with some sunshine and cold temperatures, not unlike today.
Northwest winds most of Monday will hold highs to around 20 degrees. Late in the day, the wind will shift to a more southwesterly direction, then turning southerly overnight.
However, despite the southerly flow, it will likely be another cold night with lows in the single digits possible.
Tuesday will warm to near 30 degrees. Some early sun will give way to clouds with snow showers in the afternoon.
Low pressure will pass nearby on Wednesday with snow and possibly some rain mixing in, depending on the path the low takes. Temperatures should be well into the 30s, but it does not look like there is much of a chance for 40s.
Snow showers will be possible later in the week and next weekend from a combination of lake effect and fast-moving, generally weak systems.
Temperatures will remain locked into a wintry pattern with highs in the 20s and occasionally 30s.
